2025 Transfer Portal

Well, the idea is that every opponent is always being defended by and trying to defend a fresher player. It’s the element of the “system“ that gives the biggest advantage. It allows a slightly less talented player to at least have the fatigue edge which helps overcome the talent edge. Then, once your roster is built up with talented players, it allows a more talented and fresher player to dominate.

People are going to continue to be skeptical, but the “system“ has passed just about every test so far. There are certainly some players that don’t want to play in the system, just like there are players that don’t want to play in a defense-first system or a forward-oriented offense. Not every player is for every program and vice versa. That doesn’t mean that she’s not going to sign talented players, as she already has, but it does mean that this isn’t going to be the right fit for everybody.

They are active and recruiting players out of the portal. But the one player they are not going to sign is one that is transferring to a school to be the unquestioned star player or one of a couple of unquestioned stars on a team. I think long-term this program will be built much more through recruiting than it will through the portal. Last year was an outlier because she had to build a roster that was under talented and depleted. Personally, I think that is going to make this time of year absolutely insufferable on this board, because we’re going to have the same conversations every year. They are going to sign at least two players out of the portal. But they’re not going to do it at the expense of the system, the rest of the roster, or the long-term growth of the program. You don’t have to like that, or agree with it, but it is what is going to happen.
Exactly what I have been trying to get across about the portal and the incoming freshmen. They didn't sign those players to sit on the bench. They will be a huge presence in the rotation. I think they are trying to replace exactly what they lost maybe with players they think are better. It is obvious our biggest need is a power post that is versatile in her play. Williams or Okot would be ideal, but they are wanted by probably more than fifty teams so a lot of competition. Mia Pauldo is going to be a major player at point guard and her sister will have a huge role in the rotation. Civil and Prawl will play a lot as well. Hurst is the only one I have no handle on really don't know what her role will be first season here. I suspect she will play just how much depends on portal and her volleyball aspirations.

Don't quite understand why we sub so early in the game and as quickly as we do. Second half not nearly as quick and we've played fourth quarters where we only sub once or twice. The final breakdown looks really close to most teams. Spearman, Whitehorn, and Cooper would've played more if they hadn't got in foul trouble so often in the first half of the game.
I don't know if the subbing affects the defense, but we gave up way to many second chance points in all the games and lost most of the ones we lost because of allowing rebounds and scores on first misses. That is the reason I think players that can stop the offensive putbacks is what we need to win a lot more games.
This usually means a big inside presence who can defend, rebound, and score.
My take on this is that 1) CKC had a really good squad, particularly one Spearman and Latham started to play with consistency mid to late season. CKC gets credit for keeping Coop, Spear and the infusion of new talent.

Her fast paced, spread offense was a big upgrade over what the LVs had been using (if it sometimes did have a live by three die by the three quality). The aggressive pressure defense worked very well on the whole but it is strange that they never quite figured out that they could not let an unguarded player get behind them.

So, I can separate the core of the system from some gimmicks like the 90 second hockey subs that were used to start many games. I think the latter led to this team underachieving. I think they should have been better than 8th in conference and at least made the elite 8.

Coach Caldwell gets a lot credit but she also hamstrung her own system at times.

I Wonder why she isn’t in the mix at more of the top 15-20 type schools. I have no idea to be clear, just seems like the options listed are less than expected outside of UT. Admittedly I do not know much about her personally outside of her playing style.

If what DeerPark said is true, it doesn’t sound like we’re going after any type of all American type candidates in the portal so I would mark some of the players at the top of the transfer lists off of our wish list. We’re probably going after the types of players who want to blend in and win. Although I do wonder how SC can get someone like Latson and probably one of the top posts and still maintain the long term growth of their program. I guess winning championships helps with that. So who are some of the lower rated players that had good seasons but don’t want lots of minutes or be the alphas on a team?

She said she lied about Tennessee even communicating with her. Don’t think we were ever interested.

She’s a great player but she’s a nut. Gonna end up at Houston with Matthew Mitchell I’ll bet, which I think would be great. She could be his Mykayla Epps. He always liked to run things through one kid

I’m standing by to be pleasantly surprised…

I thought what they would really go after in the portal was seniors one year to play and the hope was maybe a three point shooter and a post. I think they again want to try to go strong in the 2026 class so you need players leaving and money opening to get in the battle for those players.

Been kept really quiet who we are involved with this time. We know Todd visited and that is it. A lot of rumors about someone else visited, but no name given. If we get one post player that I think is really a type that can help us and someone versatile three point shooter. I will be plenty happy with the roster. She can't be wanting to go into the SEC with just Spearman and Latham just would be a tough situation to be in against a lot of teams.

Tennessee was not recruiting McMiller, so that list to begin with was flawed.
Okot doesn’t fit Coach Caldwell system. I don’t know why fans see height and instantly act as if that’s the perfect fit because it’s not.

The lack of information and leaks to the public is by design. Coach Caldwell, Coach Tubner, and Coach Lazo have effectively cut off any outsiders from getting close enough to leak info and that’s why the social media handlers aren’t giving out nuggets to the public.
Truth is, last offseason all of those leaks during the portal session was from people leaking information that the current staff had cut ties with and they gave that info to social media folks and sportswriters.. often times it was old information but they still leaked prospects the new staff wasn’t even recruiting.
For all the negativity and small talk the past two days, when everything is all said and done CKC will sign a portal class that will be great for this program and solidify the #8 WBB team heading into the 2025-2026 season according to ESPN power rankings.
GBO!

Makes sense why we’re looking at Todd then. I’m not sure we’re going to see Williams or Kneepkens come aboard at this point. Kneepkens was the alpha of that team and I don’t see her leaving for less of a role. Williams might want to just win since she had the accolades, but if she wants minutes and to be a focal point, we may not be the place for her.

We need a post player, but it could be somebody out of leftfield that we haven't heard about or has been on a list. Only a few in there and if none of them then who? I think not getting a post for inside is super big problem for the team next season. It affects no ones playing time as we only have two players on the roster that qualify for that position.

This!!!! I’m actually a big fan of the mass substitutions, just not the frequency! I’ve always said I would run a similar system if I ever coached basketball, but instead in intervals of 3-5 minutes. The 30-90 seconds just doesn’t make sense to me, physically or mentally.
I agree , should play at least 3 minutes at a time

Because we need 2 more tall athletic players to erase those easy layups when our press breakdown, gobble rebounds, and guard other posts in the halfcourt.
