2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Shack scored more than 9 points in only five games, you can check me on that, could be wrong, but I’d like for the starters to do a littleeeeeere bit more than that.

Some coaches ALSO value points denied the other team via steals, turnovers, and ball pressure forcing low percentage shots when picking starters.

I understand what you’re saying, but we’re talking about offense.

I think it was BTO yesterday who said Miles or Abrams (can’t remember, been up all night tired lol) is basically Shack defensively but gives you a little more offense.

If Shack provided a little more on the offensive, I personally think he would’ve had a great chance in the league. There was many many many times when he had the ball and I swear all he had to do was drive to the rim and he’s either scoring or going to the line. I wish we could have seen more.

On the flip side of things, I wonder how many times he held the person he was guarding under their average? He made his impact in the scoring department. Probably just not as much on the offensive end as we all would have liked. He should have been defensive player of the year if it wasn't for a 7 footer that stayed in the lane and never guarded pick and rolls and just blocked shots at the rim. He guarded 10 ft while
Mashack guarded the whole court.

I would be very very surprised if either of those is in the same hemisphere as Mashack defensively.
He was one of the best defenders of the last decade.

You guys downplaying Mashack’s contributions should go back and rewatch Rod Clark’s comments on the matter.
No one denies his contributions elsewhere, but when you have a body on the floor that defenses can nearly ignore, it makes it much harder on the offensive end for everyone else. Gotta have a pulse offensively.

I see Jahmai Mashack like this...

On bad teams, players reject their roles.

On good teams, players accept their roles.

On great teams, players embrace their roles.

I think Mashack fit firmly into the latter. He played an important role as a leader and defensive menace in the greatest era of Tennessee basketball.

I believe his lack of offensive contributions are a little bit misunderstood.

I can go into it if anyone wants, but it's nuanced and IDK how well I can communicate it here. It's almost something I'd have to make another video about lol.

But overall, Jahmai was a really good fit for this roster the last two years.

However, admittedly, he is the type of player that won't fit on any roster.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall Miles nor Abrams being on a P4 conference all defensive team nor being named national defensive POY by any services? BTO and all of us are entitled to our opinions, but none of us are always correct.

Again, go back and watch how Rod Clark responded on the topic. It wasn’t an accident that several opposing coaches mentioned the difficulties trying to run their offense against Mashack & ZZZ.

Hope your video reflects his shooting while he was healthy vs when he had the broken finger.

Hubbs said he doubts we add another transfer
My opinion, based on various different things…

We’re at 12 and the staff has always planned to have Grant Hurst on the roster so that’s 13, leaving room for 2. They don’t want to fill a spot with just anyone and handcuff themselves into a bad spot if Gainey and/or Zeigler get a 5th year and wanted to return, so until there is some clarity on that situation I don’t think they’re likely to add anyone else via the portal. Now once there is some clarity on that maybe they’ll do something, if it doesn’t passes maybe they take a HS kid late in the summer or another international guy. If it does pass and those guys don’t elect to return they’d probably look at what guys now are available in the portal with that waiver, for example maybe a guy like Pjay Smith would become of interest.

Right now I think they want to wait and see what comes of the potential 5th year stuff in the coming weeks before really doing anything else.

Doubt we see defensive abilities like ZZ and Shack for a while.

Mister Dean commited to CofC. I'd have gladly taken him in a heartbeat
Had to look him up, cause he’d be on my all name team quick fast. Did you see his free throw and 3pt%? 3pt% is under 25. And free throw is 57. There’s a reason other squads heard he was looking and he still wound up at CoC. Imo

Now watch him kill it and be a 2nd rounder this year and hang around for 10+ years. lol

It’s being openly reported that we have been in contact with Miles since he decommitted from A&M. Would we reach out to him for any reason you’re aware of other than an interest in adding him?

ZZ had the steal numbers and won the conference awards but who was guarding the other team’s best player in crunch time?
Game in and game out. And not just their best player for the year, the best player at that time of the game. He’d be guarding the best player his size most of the game then switch to the 6’8-6’9 or 5’10-6’ dude that got hot. He was a defensive freak!
