Hopefully Ament is capable of replacing Igor's production and then we get Gainey back, if so should have plenty of shooting even with the unproven HS additions.

Gainey coming back would be great, but I wouldn’t call him a shooter. He hasn’t shot better than 30% at Tennessee from three. I’d consider him much more of a mid range guy.

I think a large part of that was he was asked to do more...if you gave Gainey the same role that Santi and Chaz played, run off screens catch & shoot...he'd be closer to 35% or better I think.

He's really evolved his game though and was usually being asked to create for himself off the dribble or inside the arc for screen work.

I mean he technically shot 30.4% this past season and shot 37.5% in the NCAA Tournament.

Wonder who gets the nod to start in that situation or if they would start both Abram and Smith.

Move Ament to the 4 and have Carey come off the bench.

Or would one fill more of a Gainey role and the other starts

I have not heard of any link, he’s in the portal and trying to get a waiver because of 2 years at D2, which given waivers approved to JUCO kids I would say he has a solid point/chance, but I don’t know that the NCAA wants to mess with approving any 5th year waiver, they seem to be trying to avoid those all together. If he gets that’s waiver and Gainey doesn’t then I could see us having interest there, hard to imagine that they’d take both.

Do you see Rodney Terry coming to Tennessee as an assistant basketball coach to replace Rod Clark? He was CRB assistant at Texas and they still have a close relationship. Possible?

Due to his height, I'm guess he would be coming off the bench when we needed to break a scoring drought. Now maybe if he has great athleticism, he might be used more, but I'm guessing his role would be limited to situations where we needed quick points off the bench. That's not to say that he wouldn't be a valuable addition.

Barnes said he was gonna hold the other scholarship in case someone just fell into their lap who fit the culture and who had a skill that UT needed.

Said the staff was very happy with the 12 they have right now.
