Gainey coming back would be great, but I wouldn’t call him a shooter. He hasn’t shot better than 30% at Tennessee from three. I’d consider him much more of a mid range guy.So Abram shoots 35.9% from deep in 75 games and 304 attempts
Ja'Kobi shoots 37.9% from deep in 93 games and 398 attempts
Returning Gainey would be a big help...shoots 35.8% from deep in 138 games and 648 attempts
Last year we had 4 main 3 point shooters (3 or more attempts a game)
Chaz 39.5%
ZZ 32.2%
JG 30.4%
Igor 31.4%
Hopefully Ament is capable of replacing Igor's production and then we get Gainey back, if so should have plenty of shooting even with the unproven HS additions.

No link that I’m aware of, from Lavergne TN and played his first 2 years in Cleveland TN, would presume there’s a halfway decent chance that he’d like to play his final year in Knoxville.
I have not heard of any link, he’s in the portal and trying to get a waiver because of 2 years at D2, which given waivers approved to JUCO kids I would say he has a solid point/chance, but I don’t know that the NCAA wants to mess with approving any 5th year waiver, they seem to be trying to avoid those all together. If he gets that’s waiver and Gainey doesn’t then I could see us having interest there, hard to imagine that they’d take both.Would this be an actual possibility or is it mostly conjecture?
Wonder who gets the nod to start in that situation or if they would start both Abram and Smith.
Move Ament to the 4 and have Carey come off the bench.
Or would one fill more of a Gainey role and the other starts
Barnes said he was gonna hold the other scholarship in case someone just fell into their lap who fit the culture and who had a skill that UT needed. So are we pursuing anyone else, or is our roster "full" now, barring the 15-man rule passing? @Stoerner Fumbles
Can athletes on a student visa receive NIL money now?Abram and Cassamba committed as players who expect great coaching, and get paid to come here. They are well aware we may sign someone else, or Gainey may return. If we get a shot at a two with a big stat line from three, we’ll take him. The fifteen number is almost a guarantee, and there is growing optimism that the NCAA will back down on the fifth year timing due to the fear of litigation. July is still late, but there’s hope for a Gainey return. As for his social media, I wouldn’t rule out him trolling us, but there’s definitely more light coming in on the fifth year decision.
