2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Hope the portal is done, rather just go get a HS prospect. Terrion Burgess would be worth a call, imo. 6’8 F

Offers from Ark, Bama, Aub, etc. he was originally ranked 18th at one point.

Nah, I’m fine with our haul. You of all people should believe that, I’m one of the select few to come around on Abram and I’ve done nothing but talk up French

I’ve been looking at the remaining HS players. I personally wouldn’t mind another.
I think with another HS players something to consider is then the following class, now obviously kids portal every year so it likely works itself out, however…right now we sit at 12 players who all can be back next year if a 5th year passes, even if it doesn’t pass we have 9/12 with multiple years left, so how much do we have room for in 2026 class? You know they’ll probably want to sign 3-4 as they typically do, so if you add another HS kid to this current roster that’s a spot taken away potentially in the 2026 class.

I’ve wondered if maybe this is why they haven’t pushed harder for Perry, Chaikin, Passmore etc. they would be taking a roster spot on next years squad as well potentially. It’s why Gainey being added would make a lot of sense, or potentially another 5th year guy if they were to get a waiver from a D2/JUCO/NAIA/Hardship etc, maybe more so than a HS kid imo.

So are we pursuing anyone else, or is our roster "full" now, barring the 15-man rule passing? @Stoerner Fumbles
Not SF, but we are going to hold the final 13th spot open, according to Barnes last night. He mentioned Santi and the importance of leaving that spot open. The 15 man rule will pass. I’d say we will probably sign Felix’s brother, maybe a project Hs guy or small portal guy, and leave the last spot open for Gainey (doubt it happens, but no one knows), a special situation where someone falls in your lap, or another Santi situation.

From everything I’ve heard they’ll add Kennedy Okpara and Grant Hurst will return as well, however Hurst will fall under the grandfather ruling which means he won’t count towards the 15 if we were to go over, meaning we could technically go to 16.

So with that in mind they could still add another portal or HS name, take Okpara & Hurst as planned, and still have 1 spot open whether that be for Gainey or a mid year enrolle type like a Santi, or just rolling it to the next year.

Rest easy, Coach Dale. The bench will not be lonely this coming season.

Looking at the NIL$ trends, I can envision the younger players that aren’t developing as fast receiving little to no NIL$ which likely prompts them into the portal. This should eliminate the past worries of a balanced roster of younger and older players. The players have lost all loyalty in pursuit of more $. Stands to reason the coaches will trend towards less loyalty towards keeping players who aren’t producing. JMO

Yes and no…if the staff views a player as having potential then they’ll want to keep them around, even if they haven’t been playing. Case in point Tennessee made sure to keep all 4 of their underclassmen here even because they like their potential.

I thought the discussion was concerning there being a high number (9-12) guys who could return and how that could negatively impact the next recruiting class?

Right, Boswell was a high school guy 2 years ago, Estrella & Phillips 3 years ago, maybe I misunderstood the point you were trying to make. You mentioned young guys not developing wouldn’t get NIL and so they’d portal, I was pointing out guys on our roster who maybe didn’t develop or play a ton early on but that the staff wanted to keep around.

I’d only view Boswell in that light as as JP & Cade have both shown well IMO. If we have a 13-15 man roster, then a few of them won’t see the court. Those guys will likely move on creating space for the next class. Seems logical to me?

Case by case, again Boswell is the most recent example of sticking around. However a year before that Phillips & Estrella neither played a ton, both of those guys stuck around because the staff wanted them here and I’m sure got a nice little NIL bump to help make that decision easier. If we look at next years roster for example I think most agree Henderson & Brown right now probably are the end of bench guys that won’t see much run, however the staff really likes both and if both show well this year in practice and fit into the culture I absolutely could see the staff wanting to bring both back and making that clear to them.

I think this is also where taking lower ranked guys to fill those spots maybe is a good idea, you have a Cameron Carr and even though he hasn’t played at all really he was higher ranked and a player talked about, so his market was pretty good as far as NIL goes, much higher than what someone with his stats normally would demand. A guy like Henderson a year from now if he hasn’t played isn’t going to really have much of a NIL demand, he was committed to Fordham and not a ranked guy, similar for Brown, although he was ranked, not a highly ranked guy and didn’t have a huge list of schools pursuing him, he probably won’t have a bunch of schools beating down his door promising more money.

I would like another shooter. I'm greedy.

Sitting at 12 now...with 13 still being the limit.

Felix's brother is likely taking the spot if nothing else changes (no scholarship extension, no 5th year option)

The most likely to happen though is 15 limit, so we'd be at 13 (adding Felix's brother) with 2 spots and if that happens soon I could see them chasing another shooter (most likely portal) with at least 2 years left.

As I laid out they expect it to go to 15 very soon, Grant Hurst & Kennedy Okpara are both expected to be added at that time.

You don't think Abram/CM is enough at the 2 and bench scoring?
I still think there’s questions about perimeter shooting…your best proven shooter is your PG, not the worst thing, but you’d rather that be a luxury. Abram shot well last year, but how does it translate, Massamba doesn’t have great shooting stats currently so that’s an unknown at best, and Ament has shot well in the HS ranks but again how does that translate. Would love to add a proven D1 shooter from 3 that we feel confident in could stretch the defense and be a 40%+ shooter from 3 more likely than not.

I guess I agree, just worry how that works with all of the bodies. Would've loved Rice or McKneely but still optimistic given what we have and don't know if making the boat too big would hurt more than help at this point, given that we committed to Abram/CM.
