2025 Transfer Portal Thread

They seem to know something that we don’t. I’m not sure if they’ve told people not to talk about it or they are just optimistic. It seems like he’s going to have another year somehow, whether that’s the 5th year passing or they found a way to fight for an additional year without the 5th year passing for everyone.

I don’t think they know for sure. But the judge in the case yesterday provided optimism IMO

That would be the best-case scenario if the staff has somehow found Gainey a loophole; he is the one returner that makes sense for this team, and wow, would we be elite if it hits. I am still skeptical, but these posts can't mean zero, even if just positive rumblings behind the scenes.

So Abram shoots 35.9% from deep in 75 games and 304 attempts
Ja'Kobi shoots 37.9% from deep in 93 games and 398 attempts

Returning Gainey would be a big help...shoots 35.8% from deep in 138 games and 648 attempts

Last year we had 4 main 3 point shooters (3 or more attempts a game)

Chaz 39.5%
ZZ 32.2%
JG 30.4%
Igor 31.4%

Hopefully Ament is capable of replacing Igor's production and then we get Gainey back, if so should have plenty of shooting even with the unproven HS additions.

Gainey continues posting the cryptic messages. I know they likely have no inside info, but seems they are optimistic of the coming ruling. Either that, or they’re trying to keep people engaged so there will be more of a public uproar in support of his case if the NCAA tries to keep last year’s seniors from playing a 5th year.

Abram and Cassamba committed as players who expect great coaching, and get paid to come here. They are well aware we may sign someone else, or Gainey may return. If we get a shot at a two with a big stat line from three, we’ll take him. The fifteen number is almost a guarantee, and there is growing optimism that the NCAA will back down on the fifth year timing due to the fear of litigation. July is still late, but there’s hope for a Gainey return. As for his social media, I wouldn’t rule out him trolling us, but there’s definitely more light coming in on the fifth year decision.

My thoughts as well. The rest of them are training for the draft or summer league. Gainey is the only one that’s stuck around.

I think with another HS players something to consider is then the following class, now obviously kids portal every year so it likely works itself out, however…right now we sit at 12 players who all can be back next year if a 5th year passes, even if it doesn’t pass we have 9/12 with multiple years left, so how much do we have room for in 2026 class? You know they’ll probably want to sign 3-4 as they typically do, so if you add another HS kid to this current roster that’s a spot taken away potentially in the 2026 class.

I’ve wondered if maybe this is why they haven’t pushed harder for Perry, Chaikin, Passmore etc. they would be taking a roster spot on next years squad as well potentially. It’s why Gainey being added would make a lot of sense, or potentially another 5th year guy if they were to get a waiver from a D2/JUCO/NAIA/Hardship etc, maybe more so than a HS kid imo.

Makes sense. There’s not much left in the portal, maybe Chaikin and the obvious SRs waiting. Like the Oregon St kid in the portal, but don’t see that happening whatsoever, wouldn’t make sense.

Would love Gainey back.

It’s not secret that if it’s passed Gainey will be back, I would say his optimism is that it’s going to happen at some point in time for him to get a waiver or be a part of the ruling. The staff is proceeding as if he’s not but will also keep a spot open if it happens, but you can’t possibly move forward assuming it will happen, have to just treat it as an icing on the cake deal.

There’s a 5th year trying to get a waiver who I would probably crawl on broken glass to add to this roster

Chaikin, Perry, Noard & Dez White are some nice portal options who would probably provide some shooting…all of them except Noard would be multi year guys though.

Why is Gainey the only senior being talked about returning? Would Zeigler or Mashack not be interested?
