Louisville is desperate for good players.

They’re going to throw money around so they can compete with Duke in the ACC.

Vols will never punt one sport to focus on another. Schools like Louisville, Kentucky, Duke are going to punt football and focus NIL on basketball. Same with OSU and Georgia for football. Barnes and vols will have to operate with what they got, stability, getting dudes to NBA, because they won't be throwing around crazy bags like some places

Didn’t something similar happen with the shooter we thought we had last year that ended up at UNC? Did he see the floor for them at all?

Yeah, I think this is different though. McKneely is a proven player in the ACC and not a midmajor guy taking a big leap. Having such a narrow focus on him and missing hurts.

I don’t understand if football is getting all this money all they could land was a few ok guards, a WR that’s never played a snap, and a third string RB. Not a great ROI there, might as well redirect some assets to basketball
Most the money goes to the players already on the roster keeping anyone from leaving like Matthews and Gibson

High school recruiting. The 2025 class has a lot of money tied up into it

I don't think we have nearly as much money as its made out to be. We can pay the bills and retain pretty well, but we're not making any big splashes in portal recruiting.

They have to spend money to keep players that’s already on the team or else they leave.

Ah so a WR with 90 career yards and a corner who has no interceptions in two years. Much better

I’m being a bit glib, I recognize the needs at those two positions. Just frustrated about McKneely

You are re-recruiting your own roster every year and giving out new deals. You have to include your current players that you retained in that calculation. I'm not sure Matthews was all about money, but we retained Matthews, most likely paid McCoy more, and paid more to Boo Carter. I also think we are focusing on solid offers to high level high school players at certain positions- edge rusher and QB.
