2025 SEC Tournament

Most conferences do it this way, even if they have 16 teams. For one thing, it rewards teams at the top for doing well, especially in smaller conferences with more on the line in the conference tournament. Secondly, if you had 1 v 16, 2 v15, etc, you would either have to play at multiple arenas to get the games in where everyone plays on the same day, or you'd still be giving certain teams a big advantage by getting a day off while you get the 2nd half slate of games in.

Personally, I'd be fine with excluding teams that finished below 12th in the standings and run with a 12-team format where the top 4 get a 1st round bye. But obviously they're going to squeeze every dollar out they can.

Guess my FAIRNESS gene kicks in and just like football, don’t like teams getting an unnecessary pass IN A TOURNAMENT. No byes at all cost is where I am. Why playing air instead of 13-16 first week? Can’t justify it. 8 or 16. Can’t see legitimate wailing about seeding at 16, last years results show 8 is in play.

Old man in the middle of the night question.

Why with 16 teams are we using the current format instead of NORMAL seeding where every team has same number of games?

WED 1-4 play 13-16, THUR 5-8 play 9-12 and pick up right where we are on FRI. Top seeds rewarded with 1 day off not 2. ASSUMING 8 games on day 1 is not practical.

Did we just morph from the 14 team format?

Sorry if this is old and settled and I missed it.
We have one arena for the tournament, so there are no more than 4 games in a day.

In this case, since you're talking about a single league tournament, you also have to reward those who did well during the regular season so the #1 seed isn't faced with having to win four games in four days just like the #16 seed.

Vols are practicing at Belmont this morning.

So Cooper Flagg just left the ACC tournament game in a wheelchair. That just underscores my post about the downside of the conference tournaments for the top seeds.
What advantage is there to Duke or Auburn to play these games if one of your staters gets hurt - especially your top NBA draft pick. Will NCAA give Duke number 1 seed if his injury is season ending? They probably don’t make it past S16 without him. That will give the 3 and 4 seed in that bracket a easier path to F4.

Right now TN is a solid 2 seed. Is playing for 1 seed worth it if any staters get injured?

Especially when the committee has shown not to necessarily care how conference tournaments ultimately turn out.
3 games in 3 days is too much, IMO.
4 is even worse.

I think Ole Miss has the best shot to upset Auburn, but it'd also be funny if they lost to Arkansas with just 7 players available on scholarship.

Feels like whenever a close games gets under 4 mins every possession has a foul called.
