2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Was it your job to win those items? Are you paid money to go out and win those items? Coaches are paid to win games.

I like Josh Heupel. But I'm a Tennessee fan. As such, I want Heupel to succeed, but if he doesn't, that doesn't mean I think he should get a pass.

If you have team needs, and the coaches fail to address those team needs, then who should that fall on?

The way some constantly defend the coaching staff, I have to wonder, are they Heupel fans or Tennessee fans? We went through the same thing with Dooley and Butch where people argued for them over the team. While I believe Heupel is a better coach than both, I still don't put him above the team. Whether he's coach or not, I'll always pull for the Vols.
It is not about defending the coaches. I don't know whether they screwed up or not. It's about having enough humility to recognize that you lack the information and context to evaluate them.

Never claimed to have all the answers. I voiced an opinion you didn't like. If the season rolls around and we get great line play, I'll gladly admit to my fault. Ultimately, I just want my team to win. If we get subpar line play, again, will you still defend the coaches?
IMO, there are other factors in that. For instance, what if our DL doesn't perform the way we would like them to but the portal guys we didn't land also don't perform well? Is that still a failure by the staff?

👆🏿 this all day long
Last years DL was subpar. We all know that.
The head coach of the defense and the strength and conditioning coaches have been replaced. RG likes his young up-and-coming lineman. JK brought a young plug-in play starter. Do we have enough bodies, capable of playing at the level required in the SEC?
In about eight months, we will have our on the field answer.
To even mention Josh in the same conversation as Butch and Dools is laughable.

So we can't evaluate them by how they play?

I don't think "facts" ever come into discussion in here
Facts, Facts, we don’t need no stinking Facts.
This lot will get, speculation, half-truths, misinterpretation, cloudy judgements and out right lies and they will be grateful, if they know what’s good for them😎

You have completely gone off the rails Weezer. You continually act like you have all the answers. Literally non stop. With NIL can you seriously not comprehend that signing elite defensive linemen is a little more complicated than a coach failed. Seriously you can’t be that stupid.

Sure, but that's still on a curve. If you had an unlimited budget, 100% hit rate on recruits, 0% injury rate, and every call went your way, then the expected outcome should be a championship every year. Since clearly that isn't the case, your results are often dependent on factors outside your control. The measure of the coach is how well he plays the hand he's dealt. Given no support and no budget at a crappy school, even Saban would perform poorly. Is that failure? As you see it, apparently.

Idk I think we have a right to question the coaches if our line struggles again because we have a lack of depth and talent.

There is a massive difference in questioning the coaches and what Weezer has been and continues to do. The game has changed and money is more important than anything. DL Is a high demand position and there are few actual difference makers. I am positive Heupel, Garner and Knowles would love a room full of Reggie Whites. They probably realized that remaining prospects in the portal were literal placement holders. Seems like Heupel stole Weezers puppy or something. I will just move on and ignore him for a bit.

I agree we aren't required to get a game changing guy, but I do think we need another serviceable DT incase of injury. Garner loves to rotate and it looks lime we have 5 guys that can play. Gilliam, Hobbs, Utley, Campbell and Robinson. We are pretty thin on experience and numbers. Very close to having to play freshman again. Just would be nice to have a solid older body I think.

It could still work out and maybe the guy I wish we had just wasn't out there.
