2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

I've never understood why undrafted guys can't come back in the first place. Baseball players get drafted all the time and choose to not to sign and stay in college. I don't understand why other sports can't have the same policy. And I have a feeling if someone really wanted to challenge that, they would have a good argument.
Roster management would be a nightmare. Coaches can’t hold spots for guys in case they don’t get drafted. If the draft was in January it’s not a big deal but with the draft in April most teams have wrapped up spring practice and need to know who is going to be on the team. The MLB draft takes place right after the end of the college baseball season while the MLB is still going on.

Truth is had we not been so abysmally bad, getting pushed around at LoS, we wouldn't be thinking this way. Then you hear word that RG voiced his concerns to Banks before season, about Line.

You can't have the best DL coach in country, and not give him what he needs. This is an assumption.

Maybe they'll get the florida kid. Either way, Id look for defense to be improved. But in reality its a huge stretch to expect OSU '24 with a brand new staff, super young team, and bunch of transfers.

Young team, QB with zero starts in SEC, new defensive scheme, 9 SEC games. My expectations are less than last year.

Really should've spent and gone after more tackles. But they didn't.

So here we are. Is what it is.
Again, you are making assumptions. You don't know how much they were willing to spend or who all they "went after" Maybe you and Weezer should be CO-GM's since you two have all the facts and answers.

I’m always getting on to my wife for making assumptions. She can’t stand it when I call her out.

Sorry for the off topic comment lol

If you don’t like the post, just move on or put him on ignore. What’s hard about that?

Shouldn’t the DL coach be in charge of acquiring what he needs? Or does it have to be someone else’s fault?

Plus everybody and I mean everybody wants dudes on the defensive line. Did I mention that everybody and I mean everybody wants defensive lineman that make a difference. We have a few keyboard legions in their own mind that are more gifted than the actual coaches and sure as heck like to the beat the drum that the staff failed. It's turned into the football forum and it's not due to people from the football forum. It's why almost everybody has left the forum. Now back to my hole as this place is insufferable. And the same few people can continue to humble brag that they knew the staff failed last portal cycle and again this year.

I wish some of you D-line experts would edumacate us ignorants on a Jim Knowles D-line versus what Banks trotted out there last season. I need to know what to expect from who we do have on the roster for next season. I'll hang up and listen.

Here is what I really don't get. How is like Miami Canes coming up with so much money to spend on players in the millions and even giving Carson Beck a $5 million mansion to live in Coral Gables when half their fans don't even support the team? I mean they average only between 40,000 - 50,000 fans at their games for last 20-25 years while they were going thru coaches and not winning titles. Nobody goes to Canes games unless they are winning trust me.

I get Ruiz is financing a lot of this and I'm sure Ray Lewis, Michael Irving, Ed Reed, Luther Campbell are chipping in but it absolutely makes no sense the amount of money they are finding and smells to high heaven in fraud or cheating. It wasn't too long ago that Nevin Shapiro was buying players strippers and giving luxury cars, $50,000 gold chains, etc. and got caught but does the NCAA really think they are clean now and playing by the rules? lol
They have billionaires that actually care about the football program.

Why would you assume that Coach Garner is not being given what he wants? How do you honestly know who they were after hard and who they didn’t?

I find it hard to believe this staff is done and not adding more help at DL. They need help there still.
Same tired line from the same tired suspects. What’s sad is that 4-5 posters have made this read nigh unreadable with their immature antics.

Maybe (just maybe) the coaches (you know, who have decades of coaching experience) like who they have at DL, and dont see any difference maker in the portal.

Your definition of a "failure" and mine are different. Maybe they would have or still might add one or two. But if there was a few brought in and those guys wanted way more than we offered or turned out weren't good fits in the coaches' eyes then imo those aren't "failures". I went to an auction a few weeks ago and had my eyes on a couple of items . I placed bids on both when auctioned but the price eventually went way higher than I was going to spend. I guess that makes me a failure in your eyes since I didn't think the pieces were worth what they brought. All recruits are brought in with the hope that the coaches' evals are good and the players will turn out to be great. Some do and some won't. I will trust the staff to do what they think will produce the best result.Constant whining and bellyaching over it won't make you feel any better. RELAX
Was it your job to win those items? Are you paid money to go out and win those items? Coaches are paid to win games.

I like Josh Heupel. But I'm a Tennessee fan. As such, I want Heupel to succeed, but if he doesn't, that doesn't mean I think he should get a pass.

If you have team needs, and the coaches fail to address those team needs, then who should that fall on?

The way some constantly defend the coaching staff, I have to wonder, are they Heupel fans or Tennessee fans? We went through the same thing with Dooley and Butch where people argued for them over the team. While I believe Heupel is a better coach than both, I still don't put him above the team. Whether he's coach or not, I'll always pull for the Vols.

I think he is going to be our punt returner / kick returner but I’d say slot
I think the Colorado CB will also have a say in that, but yeah, I’m sure that’s his primary purpose. At 5-10, slot seems like a more likely position on offense.

Interesting that Nakos says he’s a “final” portal piece. We’re still waiting on the Miami DB Richard, as well.

Both guys solidify our ST units, and both of them give some depth with upside to the CB room and Slot WR position, respectively. There's a world in which Duarte is your backup Slot in game 1, IMO, given his production.

Never claimed to have all the answers. I voiced an opinion you didn't like. If the season rolls around and we get great line play, I'll gladly admit to my fault. Ultimately, I just want my team to win. If we get subpar line play, again, will you still defend the coaches?
