I don’t dislike Leavitt. I would take him as our starter if Joey’s ruling isn’t favorable / Joey decides he doesn’t want to come back for whatever reason. Leavitt is solid, but he isn’t worth some of the numbers that have been rumored for him. When we don’t have unlimited funds to work with like a certain school in Lubbock, TX seems to have, we can’t throw an exorbitant amount into a quarterback who isn’t elite enough to carry a team.

I don’t think the Leavitt visit goes anywhere because he’s going to ask more than what I suspect we will be willing to pay him. If we do drop a bag for him that hurts our chances with other guys at positions of need on defense, though, I’ll be officially lost as to what our NIL strategy is. Hoping for the best.

Your probably right, if we developed our talent, missing two scollies wouldn't make that big of an impact.

2 scholarships don't matter. It was the recruiting penalties and the probation itself. The NCAA would love to have any reason at all to hammer us again.

Biggest issue with Leavitt is he will not be available for spring practice. That puts him at a big disadvantage. He’s also coming off a tough injury and could easily reinjure it. I think LSU backed off.

at this point, why even recruit highschool players just reload from portal every year. Quit investing time and money only for players to leave a year later….

Exactly. Everyone complains about Texas Tech, but they really don't spend that much more on their roster than other schools. They just choose to spend it mostly on portal players and a select few HS guys. Their HS recruiting class is around 20th in the country.

Honestly; their strategy makes more sense to me. We are paying high 4 and 5 star freshman who sit the bench and don't do anything more than a transfer would do for the first two years. Then they try to get more NIL money or transfer out once it is time that we need them to perform.

That’s why I’m afraid Portal is the name of the game now, but we will continue to play the high school game.

I think we have a serious money mismanagement issue. Pay guys out of high school, we don't have enough cash to fill holes with veterans, so we are left with playing what veterans we have that aren't good enough to go elsewhere, or we are forced to play inexperienced under-developed freshman. Those freshmen, after getting experience, hit the portal. Rinse and repeat.

Some people are overly emotional and generally negative, but who can blame the frustration in here tonight? So much will need to change in our favor to “field a damn good team” in 2026. That’s just a fact.

I try to be more on the optimistic side but it’s clear as day that we just can’t compete in the current portal system. It either changes or we continue to lag behind. Whether it’s fully our fault or the systems fault, I don’t know, but this is getting bleak.

No one is excited for him. He's over hyped and coming off an injury that screams red flag. Why do you think his name has been associated with at least 10 teams and he still doesn't have a landing spot?

It is fair to remember our defense lost many of the coaches that recruited them. Even on DL where Chop was a driving force. Whatever loyalty we want right now would have a tinge of hypocrisy.
