Yup but to be blunt our offense seized to exists at times. Second half of OU game I can accept as “wel OU has a really good defense”. But it going dormant vs Vandy is just beyond bad. I don’t have a problem with our current OC because he’s also a damn good QB coach. But my only ? Is he being allowed to actually call plays. I have a bad gut feeling CJH is trying to do it while also manage the game. I say trust your OC. You focus on being the HC. Because sure we put up numbers this year, but still a handful of times that were just ugly this season.
Every team in college football has offensive lulls.
The #1 team in the country managed 20 pts vs Iowa, 27 vs PSU, and 13 vs OSU.
Won all 3.
Yep.PPG and total YPG don’t always paint a complete picture. The turnovers the offense made this year always seemed to end in catastrophe. It wasn’t really the amount of turnovers, it was the high number of them that ended with defensive TD’s for the other teams. The Bama, OK, and Illinois losses come to mind.
Nothing on Keaton Thomas?A few updates on where staff feels they stand on defense transfers
Excellent on: Mack & AJ Harris
Very good: Elliot Washington, Xavier Gilliam, Bryce West, & Chaz Coleman
They feel like they are positioned #1 on both the former PSU DL guys but worry about LSU or OSU coming in with last minute money. They feel if money is similar Chaz will be a VOL. On Gilliam they have a number they are willing to go to & think it is enough to land him, but again Indiana (less likely ND) may be willing to overspend. Aso noted from my contact JK says Coleman would be best pass rusher on roster immediately even though he expressed he was actually slightly disappointed in sone of his practice/study habits as a freshmen. Also noted that Gilliam has 3 years of eligibility.
Talks continue with most the other players I listed & visits being arranged.
They are not feeling good on Mateen & seems TTU will beat any offer that Vols are willing to make, but if they can get him on campus they feel they can make the argument of being better fit to secure NFL future. They really like Ball State DL as dark horse but concerns on if he can keep explosiveness with 20 lbs additional weight. He does have a good frame (6'3) and hasn't been in a top notch S&C program
It’s like we have short term memory loss around here. It’s possible Heupel learned his lesson investing a sh*t ton of NIL money into a QB.
It’s been shown that this offense can work with a serviceable QB without the insane price tag that comes with it.
Defense is where we need to be spending the money right now.
Gregory is from Marietta, GA and started his career at South Carolina. I remember him from being from the area.A few updates on where staff feels they stand on defense transfers

One new name to watch at DE is from OK State - Wendell Gregory (also would have 3 years eligibility)
Ole Miss doesn't have a great defense but I think I agree with pretty much everything else. It’s like we have short term memory loss around here.
Last year it was : “we have a top 10 D, if we had an ok offense we would be contenders “
Wasn’t Nico serviceable? I know he wasn’t real good but..
Sounds like a lot here want to go back to 2024.
“We don’t need to spend portal $$$ on a good QB, CJH can get a bargain basement guy and make it work “
Well that might get us in the playoffs but another vs Ohio st result will be, or a Texas Tech vs Oregon result.
The teams left in the playoffs have great Defense AND top QB led offenses that can score against top Defenses.
