2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Few things I heard today: Alabama is in full crisis. Apparently DeBoer walked all the way to the edge with the Michigan job while telling players he wasn’t interested. There are big culture clashes and the boosters are in a meltdown. He has an extended contract, a raise and now the rats are leaving the ship. Boosters wish they had leverage, but now they don’t. Poor guys… In that vein, the Simpson thing continues to pick up momentum. His projected spot in the draft seems to be squishy as I indicated before. Also, he wants to play another college season. Lots of smoke. We have the funds. Obviously agents are going to pull toward NFL. We’ll see. Jordan Ross seems 75+% staying. Had a meeting with every D coach. Likes the energy. We’ve heard from more D players who will enter, but haven’t yet. Everyone feels good that we’ll sign three safeties, two corners and 2-4 on the D line.
Visits picking up. I’m not going to cover percentages of each player, but our holes are primarily defense and we have a lot of optimism that we’ll fill all our needs.
I want all the nuggets on the Bama implosion. In fact, you can create a thread that just shares that. Bring on the “sky is falling” hysteria from the gumps. It’s about time those a-holes get their due!

I remember a time when a QB in his second year would start and, with GMACs apparent skills, succeed.

I personally wished (beat a dead horse) that he should have been named starter after the OU game so he could have 3 weeks of first team reps with layup game vs NM State before going to the swamp. We finished 8-4 where QB didn't really matter in the final 3 games. Going 8-5 how we did stings with no idea on what we are doing at QB in 2026. Going 8-5 with Gmac showing growing pains and flashes would be an entirely different finish.

To me, Heupel had a free pass this year once the Nico thing happened if he wanted to just roll into the season with Merk or Mac. No one would have faulted him for a 6-8 win season.

Well now they have 22 year olds who cant make it into the NFL but are leaps better than Sophomores.
So, in the current situation, Peyton would not have started until at least his Junior year? Darn those old men. Tell them to move on and make room for the youngins.

Question:

If all our talking heads are thinking Joey is likely out regardless, why haven’t we been more proactive in the portal for a QB? Are we that confident we can pull Simpson? Incompetency/arrogance?

I never know when the volquest guys are hinting at something versus downplaying something. Here's a brief of what they said about Ty Simpson

Most importantly, Austin Price was emphatic that if Ty Simpson doesn't declare for the NFL draft, Tennessee would be the school to be

Next, he said that Ty has to make the decision on whether he wants to play Saturdays or Sundays. Could be hinting that Ty loves college football and wants to play for one more year or could mean nothing

Finally, they mentioned that the draft is a crap shoot. We all know this to be true. Meaning He may have a first round grade but a mid to late first round grade has a significant chance of falling into the second round. They are obviously aware of all of this and will decide what to do accordingly
He should call Sanders and ask him about that first round grade

Had Heupel not made the roster and coaching staff moves he has, I would think closer to incompetency. But he has seemed very calculated this offseason so far. I do think that Simpson would be a lock here if he doesn't opt for the draft.

He's afraid of looking like Will Levis. IMO. The last impression from the nation was him getting benched. Who wants to go all in on your future with that feeling. Like him or not Heupel has more than helped some college QB's draft stock. Speaks volumes dude would want to be here.
He was benched because he was suffering from a broken rib

Here’s the thing with Ty at Bama. My Bama fan friends actually really like him and they’ll tell you they think he’s a good QB. They don’t blame any of the offensive issues this season on him. They’ll tell you themselves that he had no help at RB and OL.

They will also tell you that by keeping Simpson they’ll lose Russell. Russell is the guy DeBoer wants to lead the team for the future so Ty has to go.
