2024 TRANSFER TRACKER

I think it’s interesting how people talk about being unrealistic when people support CKC and predict the Lady Vols to finish in the Top 4-5 in the SEC, and then say stuff like Janiah Barker is the player if added to the roster moves the needle after CKC has added a 5-star McDD All-American Top 15 G, ACC All freshman F, Top 30 F, and 2022 SEC Freshman of the Yr PG.

For two years, she did not move the needle at Texas A&M with the team built for her to be one of the top options. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt being injured as a freshman. Yet her on court demeanor is at times childish at best.

And to be honest sticking strictly to basketball, I don’t believe in a position battle she would beat out Alyssa Latham for the starting position at PF. I’ll bet money to see it.

I think some fans on VN that consider themselves worthy of making every roster decision for any LV coach need to get that dose of reality when they get what they been asking for, and it exposes the fact that they ain’t qualified to make these decisions.

Tennessee current transfer portal additions as they stand today have already moved the needle.

I sincerely wish JB the best. I have nothing against her. I feel the same way about the other forward from Arkansas in the portal.

They could help the team but are not more valuable than any key addition or returnee on the current roster.
i dont think meant more vaulable i think they mean.. it puts them over the top.. the deeper you are the better you are.. You are football guy right... Do you have just 1 star rb or do you have

I don’t really get where people see that with Barker. To me she seems a lot like Jordan Horston. She just needs the right environment and the right head space and she’ll be fine. She’s an incredible athlete and ball player. Just needs help with the mental aspect of her game.

Same people saying Barker would be a problem were dying to have Zaay Green back who had already been kicked out of UT once. And I love Zaay, but come on now.
There were those who said the same thing about Rickea too. And indeed she needed the right words...Now look at where she is
why does everyone think Barker has a head problem.. I would disagree!!
Don't matter even if she does...All it takes to turn a person around is to be mentored by a personality stronger than theirs
Well did you watch her? She’s definitely gets in her own way. It’s not an attitude issue imo but she definitely isn’t in the right headspace out there most of the time.
See above /\

It’s true they certainly are not needed to be successful in year one of the new regime, the players are in place to do that already. It’s also true both are immensely talented players that would likely tip the scales even further if they came on board, although I may agree with you that Barker could be a negative influence, I don’t know that so don’t hold me to that thought, it’s just as the OP stated, it is possibly a factor which should be considered in spite of her immense talents, which are real.
added Barker and Dauda hands current success and future success in 2025-2026 season so the freshman can get use to the college game... only 1-2 freshman should start in 2025-2026 if we want to be successful..

I disagree. Barker is a more polished player then either 4/5 transfer we got as of rn. Not saying that they won’t be better but Barker has SEC experience and rlly will benefit from a change of scenery. Trust me if she wants to come to tennessee you take her in a heartbeat . She definitely makes next years team that much better, as would duada. We are currently lacking a quality big so either of the two would make the team better.
I agree 100%

Because we've watched it. I watched it live at the SEC tourney and it left me feeling awful for her, Joni, and that team.

JB reacts emotionally to almost every play, she argues with refs, she yells at teammates, she shrugs off and ignores her coaches. It's very easy to see. This is not hearsay or imagined.

JB has always been a "loud" player. Remember her more or less taking over as entertainer in her McD AA game? Back then it was fun and funny, her trademark. But the last couple of years it's been out of control and not the least bit funny.

Change of scenery can make a world of wonders for her. She will be fine and a great player wherever she goes.

I hope the reason it's taking so long is so she can find the right circumstance. She is very talented. But I don't think it's something our new staff needs to take on with everything else they have to mix in the chemistry lab.

Beyond her other issues, I'm not sure where we find enough shots (and mins) for Jewel, Spencer, Ruby, and JB.

I'd sure love Dauda though.

I think she’s exactly what we need to take on.

This isn’t about finding minutes for players. This is about winning games. The ones who want to win a championship and compete will get the minutes. The one’s who can’t or don’t, won’t play.

very well said.... sounds like a coach talking

I trust the staff, who has way more info than us, to make the right decisions on chemistry. Don't think they'll unneccessarily risk what theyre so carefully building. I'm assuming anyone they take will be checked out in that department. Still, it's alot of new going on, alot of blending to do. And we're not even sure JB is an option for us.

I agree with the fact this team is built to fit the system and also thrive in it.

I could see five starters averaging dbl figures and multiple players off the bench contributing in a big role.

Right now, I do not see a hole in the frontcourt when there’s four players that have started for P5 teams over the span of 1-3 years.

The point and rebound production once the roster is finalized could be nearly identical to what UT forwards/posts have averaged in recent years.

The guard and wing play will be improved and possibly one of the best groups in the SEC.

The team is significantly more balanced than people are giving them credit for. Even though 6’2 and 6’4 should never be consider undersized in WBB, Lazaria Spearman and Alyssa Latham play much taller than their listed height. Take a look at their highlight blocks and you’ll see UT will have more rim protection than it has had in recent years.

TK was dominant when fully healthy, yet having multiple players such as Spearman, Latham, and Whitehorn with their LENGTH blocking shots is going to prove the myth of lacking size wrong.

You don’t need to be 6’5 to control the paint defensively. Look at Watkins for SC. Probably was SC best post defender along with 6’7 KC!

Yes, UT needs to add depth.
I’m sure that plan is in process. I’m not saying any one player is a need.
I am confident that any player(s) added by Coach Caldwell will bring something to the team as has every addition thus so far during the off-season.

GBO🍊.

Yes, I’m 6’2” and mostly played in the paint. Shot blocking was one of my favorite activities, it’s about desire and timing, height has less to do with it than many think.

Taller players were actually easier for me to block. They don’t tend to pump fake and are used to just going up so they’re easier to time and don’t protect the ball as well as someone smaller.

Nothing like sending one to half court to start the break, those are huge energy plays for your team and very deflating for your opponent.

So, as I understand it, Tennessee has two more scholarships available to use, if necessary. CALDWELL has said she is looking for one more player from the portal. Dauda has said she will decide between BAYLOR and the LADY VOLS. SPENCER and DAUDA are friends. So, looking at this, MARYAM DAUDA may well be the player Tennessee is hoping to add. I have not heard as to whether DAUDA has visited Knoxville, I would hope she has, or will do so. CALDWELL has indicated she would take a team of PGS if possible. However, DAUDA is the big post player everyone says TENNESSEE needs and I agree. Either way, I would say the LADY VOLS have had a wonderful spring.

Baylor, Kansas, and Tennessee

And a slim chance of South Carolina and LSU

.
Source? Don't play, bc getting her would be huge.

IMO rounding out the portal class w Dauda would be a very strong showing for the new staff. Best we could have hoped for in roster building. If blending goes right, 3 pt shooting is respectable and health holds out, the LVs should be able to challenge for a double bye in the SEC tourney with this roster. Puts them in a tangle w OK, Ala, OM and possibly KY for that. With Auburn and Vandy (yep) creeping up.
