What I hope the players will enjoy is facing different set of challenges with a new coach. I know that Kellie put them through a lot of hard workouts -- at at least one point in the season some that were apparently pretty butal -- but it seems to me that having a team in tip-top condition is a major priority for Kim, and that's gonna be amazing for the team. Not gonna name names because it's not necessary, but I feel like at least a few of our players are going to feel amazing when they find out they had yet another higher gear they hadn't felt before.

The players may not always like Kim very much during the early weeks and months of intense workouts, but they'll very likely respect her. It's gonna get hard, but the payoff will be huge and they players will love her for it once they've survived it and grown and improved and won big games because of it.

That's the way it goes, ain't it? Sometimes you hate it when you're in it, and may even want to quit. But if you, as Pat was fond of saying, you "don't give in to fatigue," you'll be glad the rest of your life that you were strong enough to push through the hard stuff.

I genuinely excited for our players. They'll hopefully see some new drills, learn some new Kim-specfic jargon, new plays, new approaches... lots of good stuff.

Not really, I do not see Tess playing a whole lot of minutes if the new coach’s plan is a run and gun offense and a harassing defense. Tess is way to slow and just does not have the speed.
You don't have to have extreme quickness to press though it sure doesn't hurt. Just got to keep the ball out of the middle and guide it to the sideline or to the corners to set the trap. The pass interceptors in the middle of the press do need to be quick in order to anticipate and take away bad or hurried passes. Tess has good hands and I believe can be an effective part of the traps. As always I could be wrong!!

Yeah imo this is a school move… she should’ve transferred if she wanted to play.

That was an interesting comment. Something like, "We don't want players getting back on defense we want them running forward."

I have no idea what that actually means in a game situation. I am guessing that statement is not exactly what she wanted to convey.
I think she means rebound. Too many players head for the other end of the floor when the ball is bouncing off the rim. I was taught to fight for the ball and if the other team gets the rebound, to haul ass.

That is suicide in the SEC. You did see what Virginia Tech did to Marshal? 43 point loss to any team is unacceptable. Hell, Carson Newman keeps up with power 5 schools better than that.
Virginia Tech’s team was super good and a high seed. Just because Marshall lost to a superior team doesn’t mean Caldwell isn’t a good coach. It means she was in year one of a rebuild, complete turnaround.

Yeah. Caldwell said they don’t have to love her , just respect her.

gonna be surprised to you posters who never have anything good to say about darby

Most people try to make a point by singling out Marshall blowout loss to Virginia Tech. If you want to talk about that game, talk about how Marshall beat Florida. And how Marshall beat Southern Miss a team that beat Ole Miss. Coach Caldwell in one year turned around the Marshall WBB program. One game doesn’t define her system and how it’ll translate to the SEC. Look at her entire resume.

And also I think it’s contradicting how some point out the Marshall game against VT, but yet give VT coach the benefit of the doubt to turn around a Kentucky program that was blown out several times over the course of the season. The former coach from VT is not that great of a coach to be seen as a guarantee to completely turn that program around in year one with a few solid players.

Both her and Kortney Dunbar were used wrong their whole time here
Tess should be a stretch forward/Power forward bc of her size, strength and lack of foot speed
Tess will get ABUSED at PF. Stretch 4 I could see as long as their 4 isn't a post-up player. She's a 3, her rebounding at the 4 would kill us too. CKC will figure out how to use the pieces she has. Some players , to everybody's surprise won't be used at all, imo. If they can, CKC will find what to do with them.

No interest. I heard we have moved our attention to a much easier transfer portal to recruit from. It's made up of players from the intramural teams at UT.

IMO the same may be true for some of the players. But just a guess, I don't see Kellie taking another coaching job right away. Having said that, she'll probably take a job today lol.
When Butch Jones was let go he took an unpaid position. My assumption was that if he had taken a paid position he would have forfeited his buy out from UT. Was I incorrect on that?
If I was correct would that also apply to Kellie?
$500k/yr versus ??

They also beat UTC in Chattanooga, a team that won 28 games and went to the tournament.

It doesn’t sound like much but that’s been a good WBB program for a while. They beat Holly in her debut game as LV coach.

I am still thinking Coach Flo's approach at Auburn which is very similar to what I saw out of the Marshal team last year. It worked pretty well for coach Flo in the Big East, but even with the great athletes that Auburn had at that time, they couldn't consistently win in the SEC. The athletes in the SEC from top teams to bottom teams are the best of the best and most of the coaches in the SEC have been around so long that they can adjust to just about anything especially if last season was any indication.

Not forfeited. It would have reduced UT's responsibility. He got paid the same either way. Same with Kellie.
