2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Barnes only has so many years left. Should he or the fans be content with anything less than a team that has the potential to cut down the cuts? Running out of time for him to get back to a Final Four. Put together the best damn roster you can.
Please stop, we’ve done this dance. Acting like it’s F4 or bust going forward is just as bad of a take now as it was previously.

Never said it was Final Four or bust. Simply stating that should be the goal. If you want people to just be content winning 20 games and maybe get to a Sweet Sixteen, then don't see much of a point in arguing on here.

You act as if someone getting paid more is a weird concept that should never happen lol nobody is saying “pay him whatever” im saying the speculation that our offer isn’t competitive is bogus journalism…. Does VQ truly know the contract being thrown out or are they speculating on the offer? It doesn’t seem like they truly have the full scope of what Spyre will do…
You've carried on for several posts about what you perceive to be speculation and assumptions from VQ relative to Lanier's NIL offers. But aren't you merely speculating that VQ isn't in touch with the true numbers of the deal? Isn't your take on the matter an assumption? You're making just as great a leap (some may argue more of one) to assume they're out of touch on the topic.

Why does it even matter?

Why does it matter? Because im not the one reporting speculation to the masses to eat up, im questioning the validity of their statements

Are we really going to revisit this topic that you keep posing daily about how speculation should never be discussed on a message board? What is the point of a message board if discussion over reporting from journalists and rumors is not allowed?

I not trying censure discussion on a message board however I have every right to question ppl’s opinions because I myself also have an opinion…

In regards to the point all i am doing is questioning the ethics of journalism running with speculation. If what they are saying has truth then great but it didn’t appear they had a full scope of what Spyre is doing. They were not speaking in absolutes which was very puzzling

Question it all you want, but you've no idea how accurate or inaccurate their statements are to begin with. It's just funny that the very thing thing you're carrying on and on about is also baked into why you're carrying on about it; which is you speculating that their speculation is inaccurate. You seem to hang on every consonant of every word that anyone says or writes, media members or otherwise, and then want to hold their feet to the fire over any slight interjection of speculation or opinion.

I also don't put VQ on the same journalistic pedestal as USA Today or The Washington Post, so if they report on "what they're hearing", I'm intelligent enough to decipher that there is likely some gray area/room for interpretation in there. Meanwhile, you seemingly believe that everyone within earshot or eyesight of their efforts is sheepish enough to just gobble up their words without any sense of discernment. Your white knighting for the general public is certainly Nobel-worthy.

Saying… “nothing less than cutting down nets and maybe make a sweet 16” there’s a massive middle ground of those 2 things. And no, I don’t think the expectation should be remotely close to cutting down nets every year.

Maybe not the expectation, but it should always be the goal.

Here is the quote from VQ…
Now, our understanding is that Tennessee has extended (what we would term) a substantial NIL offer to Lanier, but we don’t believe that offer is in the seven figure range. Look no further than Wednesday when he was reported to be on campus at Kentucky on a visit only for that report to be debunked shortly later.

This is speculation on our part, let’s be clear about that, but it seems unlikely to us that Tennessee would match an offer between $1-2 million. And before fans start saying ‘well they don’t want to win,’ you have to consider what kind of impact that would have on team chemistry.
Their speculation that the Spyre figure to Lanier isn’t in the 1 million range…that’s a far cry from “what they are hearing”…my point is if you don’t know then why speculate?…that’s not white knighting lol that’s just me being puzzled with the thought process of it effecting “team chemistry” because one player might be making more then another which they allude to.

Lol if dude is really considering BYU...not much u can do but laugh
BYU’s new coach, Kevin Young was an associate head coach for the Phoenix Suns, and an assistant coach for the 76ers.

They’re practically rebuilding their roster the same way Kentucky is given the departure of Mark Pope.

But, if they have a strong NIL package and he can sell Lanier on leveraging his connections to the NBA, there’s maybe a possibility that they would be more in the mix? He’d definitely get big minutes at BYU. Still a head scratcher though.

I'll take the Tennessee TBD visit mutually agreed breakup. Lanier wants more money, Barnes and vols ain't going to offer it. Pretty straight forward.

BYU? Seriously? Lol. This is just funny. Just a bunch of wasted time since December on this one by staff. Months of work where all they really needed to do was start in May and they wouldn’t be in any better or worse position than they are now.
They also should have better prepared their NIL budget for this offseason imo.
