I for one am SHOCKED that a high level portal recruitment turned into an NIL battle rather than a relationship battle. I can completely understand why Barnes feels this way, because there is no way we could have possibly seen waiting on one of the last high-level prospects to decide wouldn’t end in a bidding war.

SF said it. Said we'd adjust our numbers and give another offer but we wouldn't do a bidding war of back and forth. I definitely wouldn't blame Barnes IF this is the way we lose him.

Yeah. I wasn’t even trying to call out BTO or SF specifically for doing that, or for potentially being wrong. But the example that I remembered most specifically was you and BTO. I appreciate the info and recognize that it’s good info, but there needs to be recognition that what is isn’t always what will be

I'm with you on that. We paid Dalton Knecht ~$400K last year, and let's just say this go round he would've been in the ball park of close to a mil or so. No way Chaz Lanier is worth 2 mil.

Christie is more valuable, IMO. Hence why he is still poking around at the draft at the NBA Combine. If he withdraws from the draft, he is going to command a lot of money due to a lack of options this late in the game from the portal.

While I realize we aren't likely to replace Dalton Knecht with a like-for-like player who produces those same results, Christie is much closer to being that type of player than Lanier is, IMO. And there's no question about whether his game will transfer to the highest level since he's done at that level.
