Then update saying UT started with a major lead, but UK has made it interesting. So that had me circle back to that page saying UK made a big offer.

Def think Trilly gets intel but he's not logging a prediction either. There were times we've lead on recruits that we ended up losing and vice versa. Wiltfong does that a lot but he typically doesn't log a prediction until he knows for certain. I'm in the camp of thinking we get Chaz because there are just more factors that favor us.

Right, I know...but Christie has done it at the highest level and was an immediate contributor as a freshman at that level, he has better size/length, similar shooting ability, arguably a higher ceiling. If I had to choose between him and Lanier in a vacuum, I'd take Christie.

It’s money vs development. I’ve been saying that the whole time. He will get more money at UK, but will get developed better at UT.

I was just passing along info from another board earlier. I don’t usually lurk on other boards enough to know if they are legit or not.

It’s money right now versus more money later, potentially. (Money vs development) With a guy like Aidoo, makes sense to get all you can now, with Lanier, who has a better shot at an NBA career, it’s a little riskier to just take the higher money offer from a program where the coach isn’t proven to develop guys and get them to the league. I want Lanier bad, but my days of sweating a player ended years ago. We can win with or without him. Barnes has more than proven what he can do, even when he doesn’t have the most talented group.

Sounds like he's going to UK. I would imagine we can match or beat UK's offer if we want. Throw a few thousand more in the bloated construction budget and get it done I say.

Sounds as if we’re willing to match whatever he’s being offered from a NIL standpoint up to a reasonable limit. It sucks that this may come down to money.

If you OVERPAY for one, you better be prepared to overpay for all. I will be comfortable with our staff decision on any of these guys. Continuity is important.

Our top 3 scorers all averaged 9 or more attempts a game. Gainey only shot 6.2 and Mashack just 3.5. Fans are putting all their eggs in one basket far more than the coaching staff on Chaz Lanier. Again I like him, and think he's talented enough to help us win next year, but he's still got his question marks as well. Despite playing 30+ games each of the last 3 years and averaging 20 mpg each season he only had one season averaging over 5 ppg. The only thing that change really was his attempts went from 3.4 & 3.8 a game to 13.1 a game. Mashack and Gainey both with that many attempts would averaged 14 ppg or more (projecting with previous numbers).

And we really don't know if Lanier's game will translate to the SEC or not.

This past year against the better competition on the schedule Chaz's numbers suggest he could play at this level though. But still an unknown.

at Iowa: 16 pts, 77.8% FG, 100% 3PT
at Miami: 12 pts, 40% FG, 44.4% 3PT
at FSU: 22 pts, 38.9% FG, 33.3% 3PT
vs Georgia: 16 pts, 54.5% FG, 50.0% 3PT
at LSU: 7 pts, 25.0% FG, 25.0% 3PT

We won't make the NIT next season. Just hope we can avoid the SEC cellar.

The writing has been on the wall for some time. The minute it became known that he was our only option, it was time to cup up. Just the way it goes for UT. Lanier is so very gone.

I especially don't want Kentucky winning this battle for Lanier because they stole Justin Edwards from us.

Although it worked out for us a lot better with Knecht and Edwards had a lot of trouble during much of the season

Do this and you MAY have problems with others on the team. It’s a slippery slope. At some point, you draw the line and say this is it. We may be there now.

And you have to be careful. Whose to say Lanier is going to bring the same type of production in a bigger conference? Dalton Knecht did that but he was generational

Personally I don’t see any way Lanier is an NBA guy so if we are way waaay off Kentucky’s offer then I don’t blame him for taking that.

People the “money vs development” is 100% speculation and kinda a false narrative we are offering a hefty figure no doubt, don’t believe everything you read on the internet lol
