Lucy, my most fun occupation was being a collector of owed gambling debts for my employer....These people did not want to pay, or could not pay, due in large part, to them being what the trade refers to as "gambling degenerates.".... Not bad people, just a little mis directed...It was my job to "show them the way. "

There were more than a few guys, and one strong ass woman, that thought if they took me out, the debt would be forgiven by my employer....Nope, he would have just sent another collector.....I'm still here, so they were not successful.... Just the way it was.

Perhaps, the weirdest collection I ever made was on a deputy sheriff that was way past due.....He paid after I spoke with him about his job, but every time he saw me on the road after that, I got a moving violation....He once gave me a ticket for coming out of the Krystal's parking lot in a reckless manner...It was not true, but it was the price I paid for my fun job.

My honey met me when all of that crazy stuff was behind me...When I first met her, she was actually sick at her stomach, vomiting, and I came over to help her...I pulled back her long blond hair from her face, so she could get sick again, and I was smitten....She was so beautiful.

When my darlin was having chemotherapy, she vomited and dry heaved 64 times in a row...She tried to joke with me, the best she could, that this is how we first met; her sick at her stomach.

She died a little each day for 6 years, and then one night she went home....

My condolences again,my friend. Dwell on the good things and memories. I know your dogs help you.

Creek, Rick, I know this stuff sounds bizarre, but most of the time collecting gambling debts was really boring stuff...Usually mental intimidation was enough to get the guy to pay, or at least go on a payment plan to me....I had to make the payment if they didn't....That was the way it was then, and probably still is..

Here's a fun one, no violence....A girl, a very big girl, owed a couple grand...Her name and data was given to me to make right....When I finally tracked her down, she talked me into an arm wrestle contest for half the debt, not the whole debt, but just half....I agreed....She was left handed, I did not know this...I'm right handed...I had no chance left handed....She was over the top in less than a minute...She paid her grand and I paid the other grand...

My employer laughed his butt off when I told him how I got hustled, and by a girl at that....He was old school, and like me, very Italian....I was lucky he did not have a few of the other guys take me for a short ride...
I lived in Vegas and LA before moving back South and had several friends in the gaming industry. One of the guys who was a gym acquaintance of mine was in the collections business and he was very good at it. A few years back I attempted to buy a vehicle in California from a doctor on a distance thing. Everything went well, I sent a deposit which he cashed, then I sent the remaining balance to him which he cashed and had a car haul company contacted to pick the vehicle up. Long story short, car haul company said no one home, he waited the contracted amount of time and moved on. I contacted the doctor who basically and smugly said the car hauler never showed up, my word against his, sue me, and oh by the way he was now going to charge me a storage fee of a $100 per day for the vehicle. We got heated on both sides over the phone and it was obvious ths guy was your basic con, he has done this before. I thought of flying to Cali and taking care of him myself and getting either my money back or the amount out of his axx. I called my workout Bud and asked if he would be interested in recovering my money. He said he tried to stay out of Cali professionally BUT he referred me to a collection crew out of Ventura County that worked Cali for lots of the casinos in Vegas for tough cases. I contacted those guys, who basically were somehow connected to the Ventura County Hells Angels. Within a week, I got my money with interest returned and very apologetic phone call wanting to know if perhaps I still wanted the auto, he'd get it to me, his expense, and at a reduced price from our previous agreement. No, told him I didn't do business with slimeballs like him. I never heard from him again but learned the collections business is all about learning to work with people I've been told.

With a Broad Smile Knowing all recruits considering the LVols surely read this thread religiously - the last several pages will of course raise the issue on whether GameTime collects still from AAU quasirecruiters/coaches who mislead young women on where they should make their commitment. Question should I have written this in BLUE?

Please note: interested recruits this volunteer board is the best in all woman asketball land, but we,older folks in particular, sometimes go on tangents for fun.

Good story Remy....A story/event with a happy ending, is always excellent..

What so many people forget is "the collector" has to make the collection, and still keep the guy as a future and current customer for his employer....Meeting the guy with a grin was always the best way to ease into the situation....I'm an easy going type of guy, until I'm not.

In the first place, the "wayward gambling enthusiast" is usually embarrassed he owes the money, and secondly, he does not want to be known as a welcher by his friends...He's not usually dressed for action, and the collector is almost always attired in the right clothing for close contact drills...( I said that as diplomatically as I could)

With the Super Bowl being tonight, the collectors of today, will be a busy group of guys in the next few weeks...

Take KC and lay the points....It's a lock! (So said the fool on the hill)
Boy, GT, Tompa Bay sure through us a curve ball...I had KC minus 3-1/2

Maybe not religiously, but it does get looked at by the recruit's and families

Guys, I have shared with you events from my past when I had no direction...And even in those memories, I got severely cut by someone I took to lightly, lost a grand to a left handed girl, and got a glove box full of moving citations from an upset deputy sheriff....Not real glamorous stuff...Just the way it was.

I have tried to give you guys a close up view, from the other side of midnight, when the clock was always striking thirteen...What it's really like looking at a waterfall, from the back of the falls....I have shared with you about the other road spoken about by Robert Frost, so you will always know you took the right road in your life.

I'll delete some of these other posts not pertaining to 2022 recruits.....
Potpourri is always a fun thread....

I will look forward to more stories on whatever thread!

Speaking of sharing,,,you remember that HS Freshman we've been keeping an eye on,,,today she was co-high scorer in her school division semi-finals against perennial BB power Webb and they play another BB school CAK Friday in the finals...Madi Had a pretty versatile stat line:

she outscored Maggie Vick (Iowa State signee) and is only a freshmen....Madi Hawk is legit and why Coach K is engaging with her.

I know you’re proud of her but you confuse me when you put her in this thread time to time lol...

The competition in that district is mediocre at best this year. They are UConn playing D2 competition. Now you play the schedule you have and win because it's a no win situation, but lets not confuse that district with 4AAA this year.
