Ill bite. Yes Akron is an easier opponent than Army sure. But albeit that Akron isnt Ohio St or Cincinnati. You know what area has good high school players is Cleveland. With us having to scavenge the country for recruits unlike our biggest rivals that can make a whole roster out of their state alone. Kids watching local news for sports in Cleveland see Akron get run in Neyland by an SEC team gets us exposure and possibly 1 or 2 kids up there will take an official visit when previously we didnt even get on their radar.

Trade 1 bad team for another. Except you reduce injury risk, gain repetitions against a commonly used scheme, and improve the overall chance for success across the entire schedule. These are all things that contribute to an increase of potential success annually. Y'all want us to be a successful program? This type of planning and maneuvering has to happen.

No one is scared of Army. However, the AD is not shortsighted and is doing everything in his power to allow the coaches and students to be successful. He expects them to do the same.

We should just join the Mac. Winning 10+ games a season would thrill this fan base no matter the competition. I hope eventually the schedule is 9 or 10 conference games with the others being P5. Who really wants to watch bowling Green and tenn tech other than being an easy win?

Army isn't bad. In fact, they are pretty good. The blew out GA State to start the season. BTW, my brother was a Black Knight of the Hudson.

Sounds like not only are we scared of Army but Memphis as well. We can probably add Coastal Carolina to that list too.

I've said it before - Danny White as AD has been genius.

This is a smart move by him to replace Army with Akron and here are my thoughts:
- It doesn't make sense to prepare for a 'one off' opponent in your season when you are trying to be off to a good start
- He understands momentum is everything. Why not go into Florida at 3-0 with momentum rather than coming off a potentially demoralizing loss
- Exposure...let's be honest here folks, the only people that regularly watch the academies play are graduates outside of the annual rivalry games
- Geography...As previously mentioned, there are a ton of recruits in that area that might not be thinking UT until this game gets on the local news

When is the last time Tennessee played in the SECCG?

I guess my point is, things have changed. Look how many want to take Ala**** off the schedule. Look at our coaching searches, and coach hires. Look at our w/l records for the past 15 + years. Georgia St. 1-15 vs Florida. Record against Vandy and Kentucky this decade. Bowl record the past decade.

Ain't hard to figure out "since when".

That doesn't mean we should chicken out of games. Which is what the administration has chosen to do. We aren't going to get better playing two MAC teams on our schedule in one season.

I'm not going to be critical of scheduling an FCS team. Just about every other team in college football does that these days. I prefer we don't but it actually helps teams like UT Martin and Tennessee Tech.

We aren't going to "get better" playing Army either. Schedule a Power 5 team, that would make everyone happy. Make it a home and home, and not some sterile neutral site game.

Playing against an Army team with an outdated scheme doesn't allow us to drill any of the concepts that will help the team perform better across the breadth of the schedule.

Only the University of Tennessee could make a deal with the Army and end up losing 500k. Probably the first time in decades the army came out ahead monetarily from any agreement that didn’t involve selling military equipment to the Saudis.

PG1,Not scared.Getting rid of this game has been in the works for at least six years.Take a look,negavol at the fact that we have already scheduled games(not SEC games) into and past 2028.The ncaa and NFL do not allow chop blocks outside the tackles.Maybe you should wonder why?If these type blocks were not allowed,the triple option would die.A legalized cheap shot on linemen's legs and knees.Maybe you should take down your poster of your head on the Rock's body.You ain't it.
