2021 Fall Practice #6

I saw some reports where he got some reps in, but was 4th in the rotation again. I’ve been pulling for him, but starting to wonder if the coaches are starting to make their placements, even though it’s still early.

Maurer is not an SEC level QB. Not hating on the guy, just observing based on what I’ve seen

So if JG would have been serviceable, Niedermeyer, Felton, and Pruitt wouldn't be total morons who couldn't even cheat properly?

How does that work exactly?
Exactly how you want it. User friendly narrative. 😏

Serviceable gives us more than 3 wins and keeps KY from embarrassing us at home too.

Serviceable might have resulted in 1 or 2 more wins, in Kentucky and/or Arkansas, the defense under Pruitt wasn't doing the team any favors either in 2020.

Even with two more wins, unless you've got information that hasn't been publicized, I fail to see how that changes the scenario.

Between buying out Fulmer's AD contract Danny White at UCF, Kevin Steele's contract that Fulmer gave him, Pruitt's coaching staff minus, and paying the law firm for the investigation, it would make more sense to not risk an NCAA investigation that will lead to some sort of sanctions, and fire Pruitt without cause, and just pony up the money if that was an option, given that they didn't save much if any money in the end.

I think Milton is solid. He might not be a super star, he looks confident when he moves and surprisingly crisp tbh....but yea, i think i actually have a little bit of confidence in our QB situation going into a season for the first time in about 4 years lol.

On a side note, i watched a couple of the coaching interviews today while drinking my coffee and none of them really give off weird vibes of being used car salesmen or sociopaths....thats also refreshing. lol
Unless Bailey is lighting it up passing, I don't see how he is a better option in this offense than either Milton or Hooker just from the perspective that Milton and Hooker can run. I could see the coaches doing a 1a (Milton), 1bc (Hooker, Bailey) just to keep everyone around till after the drop/transfer date. Sadly this doesn't really leave an place for Maurer. I really like Maurer, he's a tough kid and Pruitt and Co. didn't do him any favors. But have to wonder if it wouldn't be better for him to transfer to a lower level school where he might start.

All of that happened after Pruitt was outed. If those things don't happen and we get a couple more wins then he's still here along with Fulmer too....that's all I was trying to say.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's gone and I'll ride with the program no matter what is coming our way from the NCAA.

JG was bad................But him being "serviceable" still doesn't give UT many more wins. That was just a bad team with poor coaches. Bland offense and a complicated defense.
I’ll disagree. The one thing I have said consistently for the past 3 years was that JG didn’t have to win games for us, but he just couldn’t lose them. Well I can think of more than a few instances where he lost games. Last years UK game and the 2019 BYU stand out the most. It wasn’t always his turnovers either, it was his misfires that were just mind blowing and crippling.

Please enlighten us what Milton has done in 3 years of collegiate experience that would make him higher than Hooker or Bailey. Bailey didnt turn the ball over and had more td's against better teams. The team responded to him. Milton got benched cause he wasn't getting it done. Not because of an injury the other kid up there was a better qb. I understand the hype of the big arm. He can run a little. But statistically there is nothing that says he is better than either of the other qbs. Hooker is probably more ready than any of them. But I like Bailey, I like Milton to but hes a project rn.

My opinion on Maurer is, and this is opinion. No facts behind it. He has the arm and athletic ability to be SEC caliber but just look at his body. He hasnt added muscle or improved anything about his body makeup in 3 years of being in a top notch program. He looks skinny fat. That makes me think he doesn't put in the extra work required and is relying on his natural ability like he did in high school. He makes me think of the back up QB from the Blue Mountain State TV Series

Yes he is. Whether he can be upper level or not remains to be seen, but he could play right now for Vandy, South Carolina, Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri, ..........
I think candy is the only one you hit on. He and Luke Doty would be interesting, I think UK likes their guy now and mizzou is really happy. Mike leach doesn’t care about any skill a qb has except accuracy, so I don’t think he’s a fit there

$12 million’s nothing to you, huh moneybags? Pruitt effed our program. We whined every second Butch got paid until it was over. Whatever this cost it was worth not paying Pruitt a dime.

I still cant wrap my head around how we were cheating THAT MUCH....and still losing by double digits to Kentucky. lol.

Egotistical, over confident, and feeling invincible. The AD didn’t help either fully believing he could sweep things under the rug.

I’m one of the ones who believed a guy like Fulmer was what Tennessee needed and he’s the ring leader that got us that mess.

I like Bailey but personally feel that Milton might give us a better chance of winning in this offense. I'm not enlightened, just an opinion of a fan on a message board.

I get that, I understand but what makes you feel that way given this kids stats are not all that good. Physical make up ? Strong arm ? He does not run that effectively either. Mind you these stats are from the Big Ten

From the small sample size of video clips on the QBs, I would say that Milton appears to have a slight edge over Hooker. Both have strong arms and have been the most consistent and accurate. Bailey's passes don't seem to get to the receiver as fast as Milton's and Hooker's. Bailey's passes have more arc instead of the bullets from the others. Mauer has, sadly slipped down the pecking order. While I doubt a formal announcement will be made before the 1st game week, we'll see the starter taking the bulk of 1st team reps. I agree with the other posters, the starter well emerge from the next 2 scrimmages.

I am so ready for some Vols football.

First excitement I have received from news back to us. Not a knock on reporting, just sounds like there are indications of something to be excited about. Not necessarily = wins, but answers in areas that we can get there with. Sooner the better of course, but tempering expectations!

Speaks more about a pathetic defensive effort.
