2021 Fall Practice #3

You only ever talk about one of them, so how would you know what the others can do?
Look man. UT has been needing a qb for years now. You recognize it, I recognize it, the WORLD recognizes it. Personally, at this point, idgaf who the qb is because all 4 are better than we’ve had. But if you’re going to dismiss one qb over one freakin game, stop complaining because what you want is a robot and you’ll never be satisfied. If that’s not true, then please tell me how many “bad” STARTS he had to justify dismissal. You got 4 to choose from.

Last year he appeared very sparingly. So you must be talking about the Arkansas game due to the fact that he only appeared for a couple of plays vs Alabama, Vanderbilt otherwise. He was 1/1 passing vs Alabama and converted a third and 13 with his legs. He only played one play vs Vanderbilt which was a 20+ yard run. So what you and many others are not taking into consideration concerning that ONE game vs Arkansas is he came in the middle of the third after the game plan to not pass had already been revealed. By the time he got in there, he was facing a constant 0 blitz. Furthermore, he wasn’t prepared through the week to play in that game and he’d just lost his grandfather AND his family dog both with 48 hours of game time. Don’t you feel it’s a bit of an overreaction to judge a kid on one game given the circumstances?
Even the year before he looked erratic. I’m not just seeing it my own eyes. Swain, Price and others say the same and hardly mention him when they talk about the competition. He has the physical tools so it would be a pleasant surprise if he figures it out

I think Price has proven himself to be exactly what journalist are supposed to be the opposite of. He’s always been biased and his reports have always been slanted in favor of his opinion. As for Swain, he’ll tell you that Brian is the most talented qb and has been since he arrived (pre Milton). His problem with him has always been maturity. I get it. Ben just seems to flat out hate the kid. So his opinion will reflect that as well. So tbh, I think those are some bad examples because two of the three have personal feelings involved imo.

I understand that people are going to think he was erratic that year because that’s the last thing they seen. Same as last year. What I wish people would get through their heads is a qb without practice is unprepared. Correct? Then A qb running plays not tailored to his skill set on top of a lack of practice is even worse than unprepared. I have no reason to suspect that this staff will only install one plan for one player and be unprepared if #1 went down like Pruitt. But if they did, imagine it was Maurer or Milton #1 and Bailey #2. How well do you expect Bailey to do on a game plan of roll out passes, 3 way RPOs and qb runs? If he failed, would you attach that to him as a qb? Personally, I wouldn’t because that’s not his game, not his plan. And therefore I’d only judge his abilities as a qb to the games he started and the level of competition he faced in THOSE games. And from that point of view, look how many turned their backs on the ONE qb in the room that has proven capable of competing with the big three.

It has always amazed me how few heat injuries were sustained during those days. No water, salt tablets, and Memphis heat and humidity. I wonder if the mule in us took over at some point, because once a mule gets tired they stop until they're ready to go again.

Yep, once a mule gets tired he is most likely to stop and look around. My brother who is now 91 years old told me a story about my dad. This happened in about 1936-37. My dad was plowing the field in the middle of July in south Louisana. The old mule rared up and stopped. My dad begged and pleaded with that mule to get on. No such luck. That cussed ole mule just turned and looked at him. My dad said I'll fix you, you SOB[ and a few other names]. He went into the woodshed and brought back a two-by-four. He gave that stubborn mule three mighty whacks and my dad never had trouble with that mule again.

I think Bailey is the only one that would need an adjusted game plan. Maurer is now joined by 2 other athletic QBs that can run a full RPO system, not that Heupel’s is that, but he definitely wants QBs to move and take off when needed

No one is the clear cut starter at this point no matter how much the Bailey fans hate to see it.
How would you know? Being the polar opposite of a Bailey fan? 😏

You guys are killing me saying Milton is the man oh, he hasn't even got live-action yet!!!! Not to mention those pathetic overthrows

It’s more than one game.

This is Big Joe's team.

You gonna watch the season or nah?

Nope. Unlike some and particularly some Bailey devotees I want the best QB the competition can produce. If that’s Bailey then so be it. I don’t have anything against him.

Given a choice I don’t have I’d like to see one of the guys with more physical talent win it if they can get the decision making right. But I’ll pull for Bailey as hard as any.

That’s the party line and it gets less and less boring every millionth time it’s issued. The post I responded to has more than a little call out factor to it. Belies your scientific approach. I’ll admit I get excited at the prospect of Milton’s athletic ABILITY translating into QUARTERBACK TALENT, but I’m not there yet with him. We’ll find out and everybody will be right at the same time. Beating that drum over and over and dismissing other’s concept of talent doesn’t get us to that consensus any quicker.

And denying there’s both physical and mental talent doesn’t either.

I’m excited to see what he can do on the field. Hoping he can be a difference maker getting pressure on the QB.

Have a feeling that kid is going to be an animal.
He and Dayne Davis could potentially be legendary stories in due time.

But Young...he's like old school. Working to accomplish a goal because he has to. Not because he played for some powerhouse program and got all these stars.

He's just a man with his will to guide him.
I live for stories like that!
