Juwan Mitchell and Jeremy Banks had a heated back-and-forth while taking part in individual drills. The two were both working to hold each other accountable. If I’m a coach, that’s what I want to see.
The quarterback order remained the same up front with Milton. However, Hooker followed while we were out here with Bailey third in line. There was added emphasis on rollouts and throwing on the run today as five quarterbacks went at a time; rolling out left or right on command from coaches.
I thought all quarterbacks threw relatively well on the run. Milton overshot a couple of receivers – but also connected on several more, which looked impressive. Here’s the order of skill guys who went together as groups during the drill. It was four-wide with one back. The drill was at about 60%.
Payton, Hyatt, Tillman, Warren, Small
Jones, Merrill, Keyton, Fant, Evans
Coby, Jancek, Campbell and Wright were a part of the third group
At the beginning of our viewing period, Velus Jones, Jaylen Wright, Kaemen Marley and Jalin Hyatt were back returning kicks during special team drills.
For the injury report, Kaemen Marley was going through individual drills with the wide receivers. He had some fingers on his left hand bandaged up. Ollie Lane continued to work on the side and Trinity Bell went through individual with tight ends, without shoulder pads. Also, I noticed Walker Merrill is no longer wearing a knee brace.

The quarterback order remained the same on Friday: Joe Milton III followed by Harrison Bailey and Hendon Hooker mixing up who went second. The quarterbacks joined the wide receivers and tight ends for a routine routes-on-air period, then spent a period working on the scramble drill at a little more than half speed. The Vols had five quarterbacks (the aforementioned trio plus two walk-ons, a combination of Sully McDermott, Gaston Moore and Spencer Smith) throwing at once to five different receivers.
Most of Milton's throws during this session were down the field and the big quarterback almost effortlessly tosses it 35-40 yards downfield on the run with a flick of the wrist.
Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) continues to go through drills despite not being 100%. The Vols again were without Jimmy Calloway as well, though he could be back soon. Calloway was seen walking into the Anderson Training Center on Thursday and was without any sort of boot, brace or other contraption that might indicate a more significant injury, so there doesn't appear to be much concern there.
Tennessee's starting lineup on the offensive line appears to be set, as has been the case, with Darnell Wright at left tackle, Jerome Carvin at left guard, Cooper Mays at center, Javontez Spraggins at right guard and Cade Mays at right tackle.
Freshman wide receiver Kaemen Marley continues to be limited in practice and though he was in full uniform he had his right hand wrapped in a club.

It was the same rotation of quarterbacks as we’ve seen over the past two weeks. Joe Milton was taking reps with the first team, while Hendon Hooker and Harrison Bailey looked to be splitting time with the second team. The group worked through routes on-air with the WR’s, along with the TE’s. After this part, the group worked on scramble drills, which had the receivers and tight ends running their route, while a coach would yell out “scramble” and the QB’s would then find their targets down the field, while on the run. It was a bit crazy, as five different QB’s were participating in the drill, so you had footballs being thrown all over the field.
Joe Milton just has such a big arm and throws the ball with ease, as he hit a few targets down the field. I would say that Hooker and Bailey also had their moments passing the ball, but it just looks different coming out of Milton’s hand.
o, the OL seems to have a set five at the moment. Cade Mays is at right tackle, Javontez Spraggins at right guard, Cooper Mays at center, Jerome Carvin at left guard, and Darnell Wright at left tackle. We’ll see how the coaching staff uses their depth at certain spots.
Morven Joseph was working with edge rushers instead of linebackers.
Tyler Baron’s footwork was fast and good. He repeatedly reset during drills faster than many of the other defensive linemen. His lower body strength and conditioning looked good. This is a positive sign, as Baron was not involved in the scrimmage on Tuesday. Matt Butler looked strong and powerful during DL drills. Hitting the bags as though he hated them. This line continues to take on the persona of Rodney Garner, which is a positive.
Jimmy Calloway was again absent from practice but is expected to be back sometime next week. This is the hope in the building, at least. He was not wearing any kind of boot on his leg/foot, so that is a good sign. The Vols need him in rotation at wide receiver.
