Clay Helton still at USC is a clear indication that at the admin level, football isn't all that important there anymore. Or at least not as important as it used to be. Everyone suspects he's a lame duck coach, which has also killed their last 2 recruiting classes, yet they haven't made a move. The really poor 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes are going to make it even harder for them to turn it around.I'm surprised they don't have Tom Herman on there. We are talking about Texas who has zero patience with a football coach and losing 4-5 games a year is not acceptable. I feel like he has to get to the Big 12 Championship game this year with a Red River win to save his job.
Helton at the #1 spot is not surprising and I was shocked they didn't fire him this year. Chip Kelly will also be up there if he has another season like the last one. I guess Florida dodged a bullet on that one.
Texas whipping Utah buys Herman a little more time but it also buys Del Conte more time to find their next coach.I'm surprised they don't have Tom Herman on there. The really interesting thing about Harbaugh is that he's definitely hearing chirping from people, but deep down they know the Michigan job isn't as good as they think it is. Michigan has a ton of tradition, great facilities, etc., but an overlooked fact about UM is that it isn't the recruiting cakewalk you might think it would be. Michigan is a fairly high population state, but it doesn't churn out football prospects like Ohio or Pennsylvania do. Michigan pretty routinely has to go into Ohio to get players, and Ohio St has had that state on lockdown for years. Buckeye fans are really quick to point out that many prominent figures in the history of the Michigan football program (Schembechler, Charles Woodson, even Harbaugh himself) are originally from Ohio.Gotta wonder where these guys stand as well
Jim Harbaugh
Tom Herman
Dave Doeren
Gus Malzahn
Chip Kelly

Harbaugh is an excellent coach, but a very average recruiter. Gotta have the Jimmy's and Joe's to beat Ohio State. The really interesting thing about Harbaugh is that he's definitely hearing chirping from people, but deep down they know the Michigan job isn't as good as they think it is. As another poster stated, I doubt the first thing the new AD at USC wanted to do was go on a coaching search spree. However, apparently Helton had quite a buyout left from Lynn Swan before he departed. I do realize USC has good money, but regardless, $20 million is a big sum for a brand new AD no matter how you slice it. Of course, that goes down significantly next year.Clay Helton still at USC is a clear indication that at the admin level, football isn't all that important there anymore. And yes, Herman needs to have a 2020 season that it at least as good as his 2018 season in order to stay there, probably. If they go something like 8-5 again and decide to can him, he'd be 4 years into a 5-year deal and the buyout is totally manageable, even if they didn't have the financial resources that they do.
That's the million (or 5) dollar question right there.Texas whipping Utah buys Herman a little more time but it also buys Del Conte more time to find their next coach.
