2020 qb comparison/talk/debate (merged)

One thing I found interesting about JG and i think is where alot of the accuracy questions come from is this: JG was 46/98 from the opponents 39 yard line in....when window his got tighter his completions and % dropped almost 20 %... as a Sophmore he actually got better in that stat but as a freshman was still poor...so what was the difference last year, we had a worse line and no running game??
Come on @k-town_king id like your opinion on this

So he stated later that it was like foriegn language especially for a freshman. A 4th year college QB should be able to adjust like the 100s of others that do so...
and on this note, 100s of freshmen QBs are successful but this excuse is supposed to be valid for Maurer? oh, okay! i get it!

you'd think JG didnt just QB us to third in the SEC East and a new year bowl! And one of the wins was @ky where the guy some love the most couldn't hit the ocean throwing from a cruise ship 2 weeks out. hell, the dude almost got calloway dismantled withhis lackof accuracy, yet someof you still trying to debate this! tf is wrong with you? the QB comp this year....as pruitt said.....IS OVER!

1) or you could argue that the season didn’t turn around until that guy you love to hate made his first start. So who qb us to a bowl? I’d say Maurer had as much to do with it as anyone.
2) you mean the game vs KY that the defense couldn’t get off the field? The same one that someone on this board counted 4 drops in 11 passes that would’ve given him an 11 completion quarter?
3) that “lack of accuracy” you speak of....... go back and watch it. That ball was purposely placed behind Calloway to allow him to stop, make the catch and turn upfield. The corner was stride for stride with Calloway with with top side leverage. Calloway was BMs only option on a roll out. I like Calloway but he got himself banged up on that play by not understanding the only option was behind him.

Here’s a still shot that shows everything I just said. If you think that wasn’t purposely thrown that way you’re just showing your bias. His hand after the release will tell you all you need to know. He wasn’t trying to lead him. But nice try

Lol... now we’re arguing accuracy based on still photos. This is better than the Zapruder film.
It just happens to be a perfect angle that discredits his claim that it was an inaccurate pass. That still photo shows where he aiming.

We're very lucky to have Harrison Bailey now.
He's really improved his SR season.
Can he win over coach Pruitt as a True Freshman QB? Will he get to play if JG begins to put it all together?

Maybe he IS the guy after its all said and done. But the guys we have aren't slouches when they're dialed in.

Jarrett really showed signs of being a potential fantastic QB. Can he reach consistency. Stop throwing away drives etc.

Brian Maurer brings great talent and ferocity to the huddle! He's like a shot of 5 hour energy. Can he settle his emotions and become the cerebral engineer of the offense? Can he control his gunslinger impulses and protect the football?

Maurer and Bailey are both potential program leading QBs. I don't know what's going to happen but our QB room is top notch and can bring us a lot of wins over the next 4 years or so....

Holliday, Hill, or Shrout are non factors this year imo. Check back in a year for Holiday...

Maurer had zero effect on us making a bowl. His one, singular "good game" we lost. All the wins he was pretty much a non factor.

He did almost get MC killed. It was a bad pass. All qbs do throw them despite your insistence of Maurer's perfection.

Actually you can see how far off track the pass is. It should be much lower with the position of the two players.

I wish everyone had your way of thinking. Very true and neutral.

That’s where people are not giving Maurer the credit he deserves for the turn around. Maurer was throwing passes downfield and having success from the moment he was brought in. That never changed for the few weeks he was starting. On third downs he was throwing beyond the sticks. He was also keeping us ahead of the chains on 1st and 2nd downs with his legs. Long story short Maurer was doing all the things JG was being criticized for and watching him do it changed JGs approach when he got back in. That all being said..... I’ve been told I don’t know chit about football too. So what do I know?
Man , nobody can argue those points . ANYBODY that's knows anything about football . Would say the same thing .... Our offense as a whole sorta took off when Maurer came in . And that have the whole team a spark .... JG included

Zero effect? That's simply not true. And it's ridiculous you put down another Vol QB like that.

He wouldn't have had to play if JG weren't playing so awful. WHY WON'T YOU AKNOWLEDGE THAT??

Credit JG for elevating his play and becoming a great teammate, despite that awful fumble against Bama. We don't make a bowl game if not for JG coming in and leading us against MSU. Mizzou. Uk!

Brian Maurer had a ton to do with JGs turnaround. Brian showed plenty of ability to be a great QB, and his energy was a big part of JG being spectacular AT TIMES.

He still struggles with consistency which is why Harrison Bailey and Brian Maurer could be the starter next season.

That whole QB room was needed to get to a bowl game this year. I wish you would chill with the bashing of the other QBs...

Not saying they don’t. In fact I’ve told you and everyone else for that matter that he’s going to miss a few. That just wasn’t one of them despite how it looked. Had Calloway recognized where the corner was he would’ve known that ball is going one of 2 places, out of bounds or behind him. Once again.... it’s called throwing someone open. At the moment that still shot was taken if Calloway and Maurer been on the same page he would’ve been preparing for it to be behind, turned and made the catch. The corner would’ve taken himself out of the play and it’s off to the races. You guys kill me. You absolutely REFUSE to see facts. All that matter to you are slanted stats

Care to tell the board again WHEN you noticed the change in the team? Wasn’t it after the UF game? 🤔

Lmao.

Ok maybe not a zero. Out of a ten point scale he gets a one or a generous two for getting us to a bowl.
He wasn't much of a factor in our wins.
He has zero to do with JG playing better. Getting comfortable with the o like JG said was the reason.

I don't bash anyone. I just don't go along with y'all BM fantasies. He played like a freshman. He showed some flashes against UGA. Not much production outside of that 16 minutes.

After the meeting Pruitt had that fires the team up like the players have said several times. The same players who also say that JG was the best qb.

If you're throwing someone open its ahead of them where they are going to be able to catch the ball on the move with space. You don't throw the ball behind someone to throw them open. Lmao.

He was a non factor in wins this year. So he had a one or two out of ten for effect on getting us to a bowl.

So your claim is you didn’t notice the energy in this team change the moment BM came in and beyond? And you claim that it’s impossible that JG watching him play didn’t have an effect on his thought process? Dude.... let me tell you something. If BM was as bad as you claim JG would have NO reason to change his approach. But he did. He seen his job slipping away with every snap BM took. In turn that inspired him to play more like BM when he got his chances. He started running more, throwing downfield and stopped taking sacks. THATS why we made a bowl. Credit to BM as well as JG.

IN THAT MEETING is where the TEAM was told a qb change was being made and to whom! Read between the lines man!

You clearly have no idea what the term “throwing someone open” means. It’s a term used to describe ball placement on ANY given route where you have the best chance of completion and YAC relative to the position of the defender. Which means it’s not always out in front. The defender himself dictates where that window is. The receiver himself has to understand where the window is or will be by recognizing where the defender is. In that case it was behind him.

Ohhhhh nooooo! The “stats” now say that Brees is the best to ever play. Just ask K town.... he’ll tell ya the eye test means nothing in comparison to what the stats say.
How about those that say rings make all the difference in who’s the best. With that in mind Trent Dilfer and Doug Williams are better than Dan Marino. Eye test means nothin, eh?

I completely disagree with that as well. Rings come with talent AND coaching mixed with a little luck. I’ll challenge anyone to find a qb that’s EVER won a ring by himself at any level.
