2020 Primaries

The reason our country pays more is that we have so many different payers and private companies charge whatever they want to at a largely unchecked rate.

And guess what? You already pay for other people's healthcare! When an uninsured person goes to the hospital, they still get treated. Then they go bankrupt, the hospital has to eat the costs, and costs end up increasing on everyone.

For a capitalist market to work (and sometimes it does) a consumer has to have both choice and the ability to weigh options.

Healthcare is not a market where choice can be greatly excercised. If I get in a car accident, I go to the nearest hospital, not "hmm let me see who will take care of me for the best price."

The government in other countries negotiates drug prices (which we can't do), tells many medical companies what they can charge, and by insuring all promotes preventative care so that less healthcare is needed in the first place.

Most Canadians, Brits, Nordic residents wouldn't dream of trading their system for ours.

That is why healthcare providers need to be free to refuse service to those that can’t pay.

She lost where it counts. In regards to your polls statement, a significant portion of those predicted she would win by a considerable margin and the talking heads within the MSM believed that as it was written in stone. Once the true numbers began coming in, feces hit the rotary oscillator.

Many Sanders folk knew Trump could win. We knew he was tapping into a furor the American people had.

That's why there was a good number of our voters who backed Trump over Hillary.

But now Trump and his media allies are doing the same thing that others did to him in 2016.

Sanders can't win, "we want to take on Sanders"

Well you are going to get your wish.

So we just let people die in the streets?

Doesn't matter if they work 60 hour weeks and can't afford it. We just let them die.

Please let this be the Bernie-Trump debate.

If it comes to that. But just be honest for a minute, at what point in our history prior to mandatory service were there people “dying in the streets”?

What does how many hours someone works have to do with anything? If the hours worked per week counted towards healthcare shouldn’t it count towards housing, food and clothing?

I know Canadians and Brits as well as other U.K. people that think their government run programs are garbage . I’m positive looking back through our governments history of running solvent programs , that we are going to get it right aren’t you ?

When it comes to serious conditions, those Europeans that can afford it come here for medical care. Europe may have better ratings in healthcare when it comes to quantity, but they don't have it in quality. And I'm not against healthcare for all, we just need to find a way to realistically pay for it.

What is Trump's plan for healthcare? I don't think cutting Medicare and eliminating Obamacare and Medicaid will improve things much.

Lol omg you actually agreed.

We literally have people who die every year because they don't want to go see a doctor because they'd rather take the risk and avoid bankruptcy. So literally right now.

If you work full time, then you should have healthcare, food, and housing. Unfortunately, that no longer happens in our country.

That is Bernies appeal.

The question is are we more mad that it's happening or that a few who don't work might also get free stuff?

I for one am much more angry about the former.

And before I hear it and I know I will, it is not the fault of a worker that doesn't get a better job. Work is work, you should at least be given baseline healthcare regardless of if you sweep floors, patrol the streets, or teach.

You may have anecdotal examples, but polls have shown that they overwhelmingly favor their systems to ours.

If not, why haven't they switched to ours yet? Why is there massive backlash anytime the NHS gets touched?

Polls are made up to show an agenda and make money . I believe polls now about as much as MSM and my Dr. when he says this may sting a little .The reason they don’t switch is once you start an entitlement program you can’t strop it . It’s like taxes once you add them to something new they will be there forever

The richest maybe.

I would rather live in a world where 100% are insured and can receive care than one where 50% have no or bad insurance and can't but if you are rich enough 1% you get the best care.

Who put this thread through a time warp and went back 55 years to converse with Bernie when he was a college student?

I especially find the comment about life-long Republican family members—being all in on Bernie—equally hysterical and ridiculous.

Kids like him are why socialism has failed everywhere, and it will be TRUMPed resoundingly in November, should Sanders be the nominee.

Ok so you are saying "I will believe whatever the hell I want regardless of facts."

Answer my other point then, why haven't they switched to our system.

Why hasn't any country switched to our "superior" system?

I don't disagree, but Bernie can't even explain how he'll fund his way. His tax plan proposal doesn't pay for it.

Dude you can believe me or not. Doesn't change the facts as much as you may want it to.

Don't really care about myself, but if someone I love gets sick, I want them to have the best care possible.

Yep; sorry, not eager to pay a dime more in taxes so that illegal immigrants have the “right” to free healthcare and comped college.

If Trump can make the case to the lower middle class and upper middle class African American and to the middle class as a whole that Bernie’s tax policies would harm their income and wealth the it will be a blowout election.

Same, but right now I know many who either wouldn't get care at all or would get care but go bankrupt doing so.

Now there are some Americans who can avoid that choice.

But all Americans should be able to get care and avoid bankruptcy.

Correct, if you work full time you should have healthcare, food and housing. If you can’t afford any of the three then you need to find a better paying job. Healthcare, housing and a full belly are not rights.

To your last sentence, no. Adults should be given nothing except an opportunity.

You are showing me facts . You are telling me opinions and subjective ones at that . Because they are smaller countries with less people to cover that are willing to pay exuberant taxes for less quality healthcare . We will be a huge country that has a huge population that will pay exuberant taxes for less quality health care and then we will be just like them . Our health care quality will go down over all . We are not Europe . Health care isn’t a right . Neither is owning a house , a phone , a car , free internet , free education . They aren’t rights , they are all privileges of living in such a great country .

Healthcare is most definitely a right.

I'm sorry your generation thought guns were more important than healthcare but we disagree.

Literally those are facts, no country has ever got rid of their healthcare system to use ours as a model.

We have people who die on the streets right now cause we can't get care. Europe does not. Our taxes might go up some, but our total cost will go down per person and over the long term with the focus on preventive care. We will save compared to our current system.

Also, even my family members who still support Trump back Single Payer. One of the few crossover issues we have. Republican and Democrat, we have people struggling to afford care. Those people are fed up with both parties.

The constitution gives me the right to protect myself and my other rights that were granted in the constitution. Where does it say that health care especially free health care is a right ?

Then why do they come south for procedures they have to wait for up there?
