2020 Presidential Race

You might need to look up the definition of treason. Just a helpful hint.

18 U.S. Code § 2381.Treason

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Any more jobs for me, boss? Did Manafort not owe allegiance to the U.S.? Is Russia not an enemy? We have considered them so for this definition in past cases, so you would need an extraordinary justification to get around that one. Did Manafort not adhere to them? Did he not provide aid and comfort?

“I will tell you this, Russia: If you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” the Republican nominee said at a news conference in Florida. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
Was Mueller ignorant of all of this when his report stated that they couldn't prove he committed a crime, but they wouldn't admit a presumption of innocence existed?

Obama did take Russia too lightly, though. One of his bigger screw ups. His main one being no prosecutions for the Wall Street criminals who collapsed the economy in 2008.

His poking fun at Romney in the debates for saying Russia was our main geopolitical adversary has not weathered well either.

Not saying that the "Obama is the real colluder" crowd aren't trolling, but I'd like he and his team to be asked some hard questions too. The Republicans wouldn't hold him accountable when they had they opportunity because they don't want to talk about the Russian interference at all.

Obama had the power and foreknowledge to stop the attacks, yet chose not to and even commanded against it.

But Trump said something bad at a campaign rally so that's worse I guess.

It looks like they hired the wrong guy to investigate Trump. Someone just broke the case wide open.

SCHIFF: "Trump and his campaign welcomed and encouraged Russian interference?"
MUELLER: "Yes."
SCHIFF: "And then Trump and his campaign lied about it to cover it up?"
MUELLER: "Yes."

Robert Mueller: 03:16
First, our investigation found that the Russian government interfered in our election in sweeping and systematic fashion. Second, the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with a Russian government in its election interference activities.

You're talking about 2 different things. I gave you a direct quote. Trump wasn't exonerated, but nor was he caught with his hand completely in the cookie jar. I am not one that believes he has committed an impeachable offense, but I also don't believe he came out vindicated.

Agreed

And I remember when John Kerry was considered a war hero. Never underestimate the depravity of the political spin masters or the gullibility of the average American.
I give the average American more credit than that and I do think most people were aware that the "Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth" ads were a smear campaign coordinated to counter a point of weakness that the George W. Bush campaign had (his own lack of service - even in the National Guard). One of the men in those videos was giving first hand testimonial accounts to events in which he was not present. It didn't take much effort to de-bunk.

Kerry lost in 2004 because of his own inconsistent voting record and his inability to defend it. He could never explain his vote in favor of the Iraq War to anyone's satisfaction. It hurt him.

At a time when the Republican controlled Senate Intel Committee has released a report which details Russia's targeting of election systems in 2016, along with recommendations for protecting American elections from foreign interference and following Robert Mueller's warning that Russia would try the same thing again in 2020, "They're doing it as we sit here. And they expect to do it during the next campaign.", it is very telling that Trump is still reluctant to acknowledge Russia's interference in the 2016 election or that steps need to be taken to make sure that it isn't repeated in 2020. There is no evidence to suggest that Trump is bothered by these Russian efforts at all - as long as they are trying to assist his campaign. That is just as bad as Obama's inaction and maybe worse... Obama's failure to act could not be credibly interpreted as self-serving... Trump's inaction on the other hand????
