2019 Season Decision Tree

I don't believe Vandy will be as good without Shurmur and Webb. So I think they are very beatable compared to the past two years.

Mizzou is losing a bit and losing Lock. I was very optimistic until they got Bryant but he hasn't really shown to be an elite player imo. I think it's more likely that we win this year than the past two years.

Webb was gone last year. The RB who replaced him is better and is back this year.

If CJP had that ability, then he should have used it last year so that we would have been bowl eligible. Instead, we got beeotch slapped hard by Vandy. As it turns out, head coaches don’t make plays. Players do. Our players aren’t particularly good. To assume that we are going to win a game comfortably over a team that has destroyed us more often than not recently is asinine.

You and Titan are certainly entitled to your opinion, but alot has changed and will continue to change right up to the kickoff between the two teams in Knoxville this November. I don't think it's "asinine " at all.

Vandy has beaten us 5 of the last 7 times we have played them, including 2 of the last 3 games in Knoxville. It does not seem to have fully registered with many Vol fans just how bad we have been. We are not the same team we used to be. We haven’t been that team for a very long time now. Hopefully we will get back to that level at some point (and the sooner the better).

It's just typical 'Volsheimers', happens every offseason. Teams that we have a losing record against in the recent history, that we lost to last season even, become "gimmies", and our staff become elite developers of talent, while all other staffs couldn't coach a pee-wee league. Expectations soar to heights where it's proclaimed that with our schedule there's no way we win less than 8, and the ceiling becomes 11. It's usually cured by the time we play Florida.

A sad but true summary of VN lately.

so that's one part of the fan base...i'll give you that.

then there's another part that suffers from 'MunchVOLsen' syndrome, where people think nothing will ever get better, everything is always wore than it seems, and there's no hope of it every turning around. teams we lose to, we'll always lose to, and everyone other program is moving light years past us. there's no coaching change or recruiting class that will ever catch the likes of Bama, FL, GA. and we're constantly reminded of this cause we can't beat Vandy or MO much less GA or Bama. there is no cure, as it is a mental disorder where all the symptoms are fabricated, so no matter who we hire, who we recruit, or who we beat, nothing will ever prevent the inevitable.........that we suck, and will continue to suck. forever.

Heh, no. It conveys exactly what I wanted to convey, and nothing more. :)

A few folks have misread a 10-2 (or 4-8) prediction into the OP, which is absolutely not there. It is neither an optimistic nor a pessimistic chart. It is simply a diagram of all the possible paths the Vols could take in 2019, if you agree that a handful of the games are very likely predictable outcomes (losses to Bama and UGa, wins vs Kentucky and the Group of 5 teams).

Put a different way: anyone whose prognostication fits within this 'tree', I'll agree with them that theirs is a valid viewpoint and a place that we COULD end up. Anyone who predicts something different than the outcomes included here, I would want to know more about why they have that perspective.

That's all. It's just a framework offered up for all the future discussions, in this thread and many others to come, about who predicts what for the lads in Orange.

So...did it convey what YOU thought it did? Heh.

Go Vols!

If Dobbs was the qb, 7 would be the floor. And 9 the ceiling.

With the defense we will field this year, and the senior WRa. Our ceiling would be 12 IMO with Dobbs at QB.

He won 9 games twice with Butch as coach....

My take on that is that average Coach Derek Mason is much better than Dooley (1 loss) and CBJ (3 losses).

I feel good about CJP and 1 1/2 recruiting classes to take care of business from here on out, especially considering Vandy's losses last season.

If we're 10-1 with our only loss being to the stinking lizards then the only possibility is laying an egg against Candy allowing Florida to back into the SECCG again......
