Maybe, but Mauer is a true freshman playing against the 2's on a defense that as far as we know, isn't that good. Gotta keep it in perspective. I certainly hope he's good enough to take the starting spot, but unlikely at this point imo.

I said I’m getting behind JG but I think Maurer throws a better ball. Whoever starts, I’ll be rooting for success.

Seems like last season they didn't dial up many runs for him and/or he was hesitant to take off. Maybe they'll open up the playbook a bit and catch some opponents off guard with a designed run or two this year.

The backup QB is always the favorite player when the team struggles. If he is better, he will play. It's really that simple.

As far as experience, JG should start to prove he has what it takes. I hope he does well, but he needs to get to the point where the coach doesn’t keep pointing out the same flaw year after year.

Actually, I have watched Maurer from his junior year until now. I do like him and his leadership abilities. He is coachable. In my opinion, he throws a better ball with more velocity than JG. JG will start because it’s his to lose and he will if he doesn’t progress quickly with getting the ball out of his hands.
