2018 Schedule - I dare

There is no research to be done. The majority of the roster has never beaten Vandy. So saying itd a gimme is a bit stupid.

This is our year? Lol, ive heard that several times, always in the off season.

So you don't know and you're not willing to do the research since you believe, "There is no research to be done.", in my opinion it seems you are the one a bit ignorant. Keep coming up with uninformed opinions by choice.

You keep giving Vol fans grief for their opinions about how 2018 will play out all the while you choose to be less informed.

You sir make our fan base look much worse than any sunshine pumper ever could. At least we are using the information that is available to form our opinions. You are making guesses and assumptions based off 2 years of really bad football these past two Novembers.

"This is our year.", is what Vol fans say. Fans of many other programs do the same. There's only 1 fan base that's right each year.

Champs of the off season. Where did you hear that? Sounds like gump talk that you are more than happy to regurgitate. Are you going for brownie points from your gump neighbors and friends?

Try harder. Put forth some effort when forming your opinions. There is a bunch of research you can do to become better informed. Don't be lazy and take the easy way out.

It's been a tough few years, it's hard to change. I think 2018's team can change how the Vols will be viewed going forward.

Or they could coast thru the season since they were 0-8 last year. Why bother to work this year? They worked hard last year and what did it get them? 0-8.

We will see. Maybe they will make better use of their free time and turn this around. I expect they will.

With new schemes on both sides of the ball, our only concern should be the learning curve to the 3-4.

You’re making an uninformed guess. Same as everybody else.

However, they are using intelligence, guided by experience, to come to the conclusion that it’s going to take time to make serious improvement from the worst season in school history.

You’re just hoping.

We have to change the psyche of the team. ( We hope to beat Florida ) to ( We will lose to them under any condition) Even when we were the better team Florida would not accept that we would beat them

Having an elite defense would help, too. Haven’t had that for 17 years.

I may be less informed than some, but I can compare the rosters of two teams and come up with an informed opinion.

If that's too much effort for "everybody else", don't lump me in with that.

Uninformed guess is not the same as what I've considered.

Have you compared the two rosters and have an opinion?

When people make outlandish predictions in Feb, especially ones whose team has a new HC and went 0-8, in the SEC the previous year, you have to wonder how much football knowledge they have. In this case I’m pretty sure you’re more of a cheerleader type and less of a footballl player type.

We played Bama in the NC and lost in OT. And we return a great roster of players and add six, five star players to that roster. Plus we have a proven staff that won the SEC, the Rose Bowl, and were two horrible calls from winning the NC, and I still wouldn’t predict a UGA win over Bama, or a 10-2 season at this point. But you go ahead. Tell Pruitt that you’re predicting 10-2 and a win over Bama and record the look on his face.😂

Nope. No crystal ball here.

What I can do and did was pull up both rosters and compare talent.

Let me tell you now there is a gap. In the past that gap was narrowed due to scheme and predictability of the scheme.

I am guilty of expecting CJP to be a little creative. Even if he ran the same exact schemes I'm expecting him to develop the players more than Butch did.

Try just a little to inform yourself. It's not that hard if you use the internet.

Or is using the technology and information beneath you?

You are using paper to tell someone about a difference in talent.

Others are using what they have seen on the field.

There are Qb’s who came out of high school unranked that I would take over Feliepe Franks right now.

At some point, the high school ranking is not worth the paper it’s printed on

It's not February. We're still in the month of January.
In case it helps, we're on the 3rd planet from Sol. Though commonly known as Earth it has other names. Names such as Terra, Gaia, Terra Mater, and even The Bright Blue Marble. And bulldogs, in case you also don't know, aren't hybrids resultant of a canine - bovine mating event. Now, uh, now, umm, tell me what you know.

Yep. You choose to not even compare the rosters and form your opinion.

You want to give me grief for not "knowing" the 2 deep.

Sure it's all paper, but when we have about the same # of 3*s but we fill in the roster with 4 and 5* vs them filling in with 2* talent, I do feel confident that we should beat them with ease. Why? Because we should.

You want me to tell the future like I know it. All I'm asking of you is to look as the rosters, compare them to each other, and them give your opinion.

Roster Vs Roster advantage Vols.

Coaching Vs Coaching is unknown due to some of our staff being new to their position(Several key positions.) I sill say a green CJP is better than a seasoned Butch.

Our biggest concern will be the learning curve of the 3-4.

Names on a paper, thats all the roster is. Hardly backs up statements like "smart cant beat pruitt" and considering nearly half of our sec games as gimme games. Every team has a roster.

Again, the whole stars thing (and you are talking to a star gazer here) doesn't matter.

Recruiting ranking and stars just basically means that there is a higher probability that the player pans out. That's all it means.

At some point, the 5* or the 4* has to produce to live up to the ranking.

There is a point where Jake Locker, Ryan Leaf, etc. stopped being 1st round draft picks and started being bad NFL QB's.

There is a point where Tom Brady stopped being a 6th round draft pick and became a future Hall of Famer.

Based on what we've seen.....which is all we have to go on......there isn't much of a talent difference between Tennessee and the rest of the SEC. For 2 consecutive seasons, Vandy hung 40+ on Tennessee.

While I understand some of your argument, that the previous staff did not reach the full potential of what's there.....it doesn't change in 1 season.

When you have the worst season in school history, there is a lot wrong. And you can't look at the schedule and think that it's a scrub game and chalk it up as a "W".

You've been owned by almost the entire league for a decade.

Next year, every game will be a battle.

Out biggest problem over the Butch era was that we were all on the same page. Our offense their defense. Our defense their offense. How many times did their defense appear to know what was coming and promptly stuff the give to our RB? How many times did their offense out formation us and bounce it to the outside for a big gain?

Down play coaching as much as you want, but it was the issue when it came to how we developed and utilized our players.

Running a plain offense and defense, it was like we brought checkers to a chess match and couldn't figure out why we were struggling.

I'm not sure owned is the right work for almost all of the league. Don't get me wrong it's been the worst streach that I can think of, but I've only been watching for a little over 30 years. I don't consider losing a highly contested game that comes down to the last plays as being owned. Even if the end result is a loss. Bottom line sure we have lost plenty to plenty. But owned? Nah. Not so much.

There are several teams on our schedule that plan on taking us to the woodshed. That doesn't mean they will. This isn't Butch's team anymore. I doubt we hang out hat on less than 10 plays ever again.

Bring on Sept. 1st.

I'll just give one word of warning.

Pruitt, since coaching in college, has worked at Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State.

Not once in his college coaching career has he had to try to hide his unit's or team's deficiencies.

He didn't even have to worry about injuries. That's how loaded the rosters were on the defensive side of the ball where he happened to be.

Just keep that in mind

Keep in mind that Pruitt recruited these loaded teams.

Names on a paper, thats all the roster is. Hardly backs up statements like "smart cant beat pruitt" and considering nearly half of our sec games as gimme games. Every team has a roster.

With the staff changes and scheme changes I expect to win our 4 OC games and to handle SC, Ky, Mo and Vandy in a solid fashion.

WV will be preping in the dark for us. Sure they will have the film from the O&W game but other than that we are an unknown. That's why I think we get the win. If we were playing them late in the year who knows. But we aren't. Or if they could game plan on us all off season watching film to get an edge they could be trouble. But that's not the case. We know what they will do based off what they did last year.

All Smart had to do was beat Pruitt's defense and the chumps would be celebrating a NC.

He couldn't. Until he does, he can't.

CJP isn't like Butch where we want the HC to step aside and get a good OC and DC to win games for him. CHP is a quality DC that has be given it a shot a HC. He could blow this chance and end up like Butch and Dooley.
