2018 Midterm Election Thread

The poem on the SOL confirmed nothing, you obviously know jack squat as to why and how it's even on there.

The words in the 14th amendment to still apply since it's the law of the land but IMO section 1 needs to be changed, the right way not by EO or even legislation.

You got confused, or are just ignorant either one. Just admit it and move on.

You're insistence that I've conflated the words of Liberty and the 14th is a pathetic deflection and signifies you clearly don't understand the point that was being made.

Honestly, your contrarian 'non-political' argument is an assault on common sense.

I don't speak for LG.

I'm wondering if there is an argument or desire by some that the 14th should be removed because it no longer serves a legitimate purpose in today's climate.
I dont agree with what Trump said about it, no. I do think that the spirit of the 14th wasnt to cover those who came into this country illegally and had a child. JMO

You didn't make a point, you got confused and are just too suborn to admit it.

You not understanding a point is different than one not being made. If there's any confusion, here is where it lies.

Listen Luther, nobody understood your mythical point.

You followed LGs lead in referencing the 14th amendment when it wasn't part of the conversation.

I only referenced it because you noted that words from the late 1800's weren't relevant, I was simply reminding you that the 14th was a product of those times. Is this still confusing for you?

I also pointed out that the words have never had any legal implications, they came from a poem.

Plus the poem on the SOL was put there 35 years AFTER the 14th was ratified.

The right on the Second Amendment: "The words mean exactly what they say! The language about a militia and the context of the adoption of the Amendment are irrelevant!"

The right on the 14th Amendment: "You have to look at what was going on at the time and change the meaning of the words now because they don't mean what they say."
you would have a point if your own stance was anywhere near consistent.

No one argued that they did, why make a point to something that's not being argued? It doesn't change that this country was founded on people seeking shelter from oppression.

LG pretty much did. At least thats how I interpreted it.

I don't disagree that was one of the founding principles however we can amend the 1st section of the 14th amendment and still live up to that.

It sure appeared that you were jumping onboard with LG in his argument.

LG argued that the words at the base of the SoL were some sort of legal doctrine? I didn't see that, in that case - I can say that I didn't make that argument.

Now, Brian Kemp is accusing Democrats in Georgia of hacking the election without providing any evidence or even giving any reasons for why he believes this. It's a reckless accusation for the supervisor of elections to be making if he isn't prepared to prove it... and frankly, it just looks like he is preemptively making an excuse, just in case he loses tomorrow. He wouldn't be doing this if he was confident that he was going to win.

It is a symptom of Trump controlling the GOP: blatantly lie, blame everything on a Democrat, spread false narrative, supporters immediately believe it no matter what, repeat on Fox News echo chamber.

True... but this actually makes me feel better about Abrams chances tomorrow. Kemp is looking desperate since the "exact match" law was shot down in Federal court and he can't indiscriminately throw out voter registrations anymore.
