2018 Midterm Election Thread

Then there's this:

Republican challenger pulls even with anti-Trump Democrat in solid-blue Oregon's governor's race: poll | Fox News

If there's a "blue wave" coming in 2018, someone may have forgotten to tell Oregon's voters. A Republican challenger has pulled even with blue state Oregon's Democratic incumbent governor, according to a new poll.

The news comes as a surprise in a state that hasn’t seen a Republican governor since late 1980s, sparking fears of the end of Democratic Party’s total domination of the state.

The poll indicates that Republican state Rep. Knute Buehler is waging a serious challenge to Gov. Kate Brown, a vocal critic of President Trump, with both candidates getting support from 45 percent of likely voters, the Oregonian reported.

Which Georgia candidate won the republican runoff? The one who yanked Deltas tax break for not supporting the NRA, or the one who promised to round up illegals in his pickup truck?

Liz Peek: Why Chuck Schumer’s about to have a very bad week (hint: It’s the Trump economy, stupid) | Fox News

This is extraordinary – but not mysterious. The poll from the Wall Street Journal also showed a record 50 percent of people giving President Trump high marks for his handling of the economy. That is the only issue on which half or more of the population rates the president positively.

The problem for Democrats is that the economy is the issue that counts most. Every survey that ranks the concerns of Americans puts the economy up top. As families sit around their kitchen tables, few worry whether North Korea’s denuclearization is going as planned. But they sure are concerned about whether they’re about to lose their jobs.

Democrats are in a tough position. They would like to convince voters they hold the key to a more prosperous future. Facing an extremely prosperous present, they have adopted ever more extreme programs like guaranteed jobs or free college tuition to attract support.

Some think such promises are almost too good to be true. They are correct.

The endorsement was huge, but the whole story....

Cagle was the frontrunner. He went to discuss an endorsement with one of the other candidates who recorded the conversation on his phone and caught him talking candidly about doing things for pure politics and leaked it to the media.

Then in the final week team Trump swooped in and endorsed the other guy and.... voila... a 5 point Cagle lead turned into a 30 point boatracing by Brian Kemp.

Have you guys seen the Kemp ads? Completely bonkers. It's as if Comedy Central drew a caricature of a southern Republican politician ... except this guy really exists. There's one ad with like 30 guns in a room and he's threatening the kid dating his daughter. Another ad says he can use his big ol' pick up truck to round up illegal aliens.

Kemp is a smart guy. It was all an act in a primary where everybody was sprinting to the right trying to be the guy that finished 2nd. It worked.

According to polls rn, looks like Bredesen will be the Senator and Dean has a good shot at governor.

If this happens it will send shockwaves politically.

Bredesen might win, still have my doubts but I don't see Dean pulling it out.

One might think they'd get their party in line with what everyone is saying...

Pelosi describes 9/11 attacks as 'incident,' suggests GOP weaker on border than Democrats | Fox News

She claimed that Republicans are actually weaker on the issue than Democrats because they did not implement some of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations that concerned border security enforcement and immigration.

“We have a responsibility to protect our borders. All of our borders. Let’s make no mistake about that. Democrats have been strong on that point. All of our borders,” Pelosi told the reporters.

“In fact, I said to some of you before, when we had the 9/11 incident and the commission was formed — and they made their recommendations — they made recommendations to protect America, but the Republicans would never take them up. And some of it was about our borders. The Republicans would never take them up,” she added.

didn't he have one of him blowing something up too?

I have never seen a more stereotypical set of commercials than the Georgia Republican primary candidates.

That is what Trump has done to the Republican party... he has made their candidates caricatures. It's a race to be the biggest gun lovin' redneck now.

I don't really think it was too much of a change in what they were, just how they advertise.

the few Dem ones I have seen haven't been too good either. the only one I really remember just kept showing Trump behind bars and long winded speeches. no message what so ever.

Oh really? I prefer to believe that Mr Trump has forced the candidates actually relate to the electorate. If that means they have to be gun loving rednecks, then so be it. You prefer elitists that have zero ability to relate to the common man but would rather TELL you how to live your life and care for your every need from cradle to grave. I want government out of my life as much as possible. You prefer the alternate.

Of course nothing about She Guevarra is a caricature. Not at all
