Meh, I'm just that guy who has an understanding of history.
I really would love to know what they would think of the McCarthyism Hollywood blacklists.
Right as in politically or right as in correct?
Right as in most of the people he accused of being communists were actually communists. The dude has been completely disgraced in textbooks (i teach), but hindsight shows that he was way more right than we originally thought.
"The U.S. government had a secret program, known to us as the Venona Papers, which involved an ultra-secret operation that ran from 1940 to 1980 aimed at decoding intercepted Soviet communications with agents in America. The program intercepted some 25,000 documents, but was only able to decipher 3,000 of them. From that small portion of documents the government was able to uncover the names of more than 300 Americans working as spies or informants for the Soviet Union, with positions in major corporations, development boards, and government agencies, such as the State and Treasury departments. The Venona project was instrumental in catching high-level Soviet spies such as Julius Rosenberg, who was executed, along with his wife, for giving critical information on the Manhattan Project to the Soviets, and Alger Hiss. The Hiss case is very controversial, but as a senior level State Department employee, it goes to show the level of penetration people were fearing at the time.
The Venona Papers also indicated that the Communist Party of America was actively assisting Soviet spies in their actions against the US. This involvement is why there were so many persecutions of the Communist party in the US. Many people, myself included, would say that McCarthy went to far in oppressing a political party, because political freedom is important, but it would be wrong to say that there was no direct and dangerous connection between the CPA and the KGB."
Good little summary.
I always took it was more about his attempt to portray them as dangerous and evil and to whip the public into unjustified hysteria.
Similar to what the right has attempted with immigration.
He's depicted that way on purpose. What gets lost in the shuffle we discussing the topic is that there was a real and serious danger to the USA as a result of espionage. People like Alger Hiss and Klaus ***hs were very much a part of our govt and had access to major military secrets, like the Manhattan Project. Besides the German scientists the Russians had kidnapped at the end of WWII, this was probably the deciding factor in the detonation of their first atomic bomb in 1949. Add to that that China turned communist in 1949 with the population of over 1 billion, and people were rightfully worried as hell.
As far as immigration, in all seriousness, I think if more Americans knew what has really happened in the US since 1965, they would be voting even more so for immigration reform candidates. IMO, immigration will be the TOP issue of 2018, and why I'm still skeptical of a blue wave.

The problem was he was encouraging Americans to adopt the same practices as the Stalin era. "Report your neighbors for unamerican activities!"
I just find it ironic a group of people would long for the return of a Senator that would gleefully haul them in front of a Congressional committee for their socialist leanings amid beliefs.
I'd really love to see McCarthy's reaction to that little girl from New York.
Ex-FBI head James Comey urges public to vote Democratic - CNNPolitics
"This Republican Congress has proven incapable of fulfilling the Founders' design that 'Ambition must ... counteract ambition.' All who believe in this country's values must vote for Democrats this fall. Policy differences don't matter right now. History has its eyes on us," he wrote.
"This was the day an American president stood on foreign soil next to a murderous lying thug and refused to back his own country. Patriots need to stand up and reject the behavior of this president," Comey said on Twitter.
