Actually, he costs himself 10 billion by not simply investing in an index funds all the wealth his father gave him.

Instead he did it his way and lost money.

Too bad for all the people who work for his companies.

He built an empire off a million dollar loan from his father, surely you'd do the same for your own kids if you could.

His father gave him his entire company. Not just this "loan" that he likes to brag about.

Prior to that he worked for his father.

Well I would love to lose money and be worth billions of dollars.

I was a very small businessman but I can assure you anyone that has been in business for a few years has made a bad deal or two. That is part of doing business. Trump has made many more smart business moves than he has bad ones. He is a very good businessman, to say otherwise is ridiculous.

Which he parlayed into a multi billion dollar empire, why do liberals have such wealth envy? Are they compensating for other shortcomings?😳

Not envious, just stating facts. He could've been an even larger empire by simply doing nothing and investing in a conservative index fund.

I have a hard time crowning someone as a financial genius, if they can't beat the returns of the market.

An empire isn't just a large bank account.

99.9% of people would be richer if they Monday morning quarterbacked every financial decision they ever made.

An index fund captures the average return of the market. So to say 99.9% would do better than "average" sounds a bit strange. Especially when we are talking about someone who was a second (possibly third?) generation businessman with an economics degree. My expectations would be beyond "average".

Thank goodness not every wealthy person follows 8188s preferred path. There would be a lot more unemployed.

When did I call it my preferred path? Plenty of people make great decisions by starting their own company. Others should've simply invested their wealth.

So he made a billion dollar plus empire, yet you say he was dumb for not making $10 billion dollars.

How's your 401K working out for you?

True but don't knock the guys who put their money on the line to start businesses. Takes a tad more balls to start a business than invest in a fund.

How many jobs would Trump have created if he had invested all he inherited into an index fund?

Not only has Trump made himself billions of dollars he has created jobs for many many people both white and blue collar.

I don't disagree. I think working for yourself is the true American Dream, but let's not champion someone who simply took their fathers wealth and beat inflation.

That is not the point. Donald evidently did not want to invest in stocks and do nothing. He wanted to becomes a businessman and he became one the best businessmen in America. He build an empire, that cannot be disputed.

Like I posted earlier in another thread we all have to carve out our niche in life. Donald did just that.

The point remains the same, his money would have made more elsewhere because it would have been more useful elsewhere, meaning his impact on the economy would have been bigger if he had sipped Mai Tais in the West Indies his whole life.
