2016 Election Thread Part Deux

PKT does bring up a pretty huge disconnect I myself have often tried to figure out from the pro-life perspective. If you believe that abortion is murder, no different than you shooting your neighbor in cold blood, then surely it follows that you would believe the mother should be persecuted for killing the child... She should be put in prison just like serial killers and gang bangers, or, if you believe in the death penalty, be put to death for her crime.. right? Is that not the logical conclusion if you do believe it is murder?

If you're trying to make an argument from pragmatism, it does not work in favor of the pro-life side. The pro-life argument has to be made from a moral perspective, and again, if that is the case and abortion is in fact murder, you should be consistent in your beliefs at the very least regarding punishment.

I don't want to speak for all pro-life individuals, but my stance isn't about punishing anyone. Criminalizing abortion isn't the goal. It's nothing more than a means to an end. The goal is saving lives. Whether you appreciate or respect my pragmatism, my hope is that as many lives are saved as possible. While I think that anyone who kills her child should be punished, if focusing on the provider is likely to bear more fruit, then that's where my focus will be.

I agree. I've heard similar arguments for not believing in rape or incest exceptions. It may seem cruel, but it's the logically consistent position.

I would prefer that all of those children have a chance to live their lives. But, I acknowledge that taking the hardline position is likely to meet more resistance. As always, politics is the art of compromise. Taking an all-or-nothing approach leaves one with nothing more often than it leaves one with all. If carving out a rape and incest exception results in 95 lives being saved while 5 die, that is much better than holding out for all 100 and seeing them all die anyway.

That is much better than the one I just watched:

Thought this was interesting..Hillary has won 17 states and Sanders has 15 and they basically tied in Iowa and Massachusetts (even though Clinton has a big delegate lead)..I expect Bernie to win the next two in Wisconsin and Wyoming..making them tied in states and giving Sanders the last 7 wins..then there would be a 10 day break before NY..if Sanders wins there then it gets interesting with the super delegates imo

Nate Silver look at what it would take for him to tie Clinton in non-superdelegates:

Doesn't seem possible unless he has some outside "help" in the form of a scandal.

Explain. I think that he was probably born in Hawaii, but the birth certificate is a fake. What is the problem?

My theory on the birth certificate from day one is that it states his race as "white" because his mother was white and his father wasn't around. Brother Obama can't be having his peeps exposed to such

A Lot of people on here has said or believe that Trump being at the top the Republican ballot doesn't hurt other Republican candidates on the ballot. The polls are saying other wise.

"Trumps effect on the down ballot: Voters 2x less likely to vote for Senate GOP candidate."

VN should sponsor a whackin' contest between you and LG. For motivation he'll use anything Hillary and you'll use anything anti-Trump.

Trump being...humble?

Trump acknowledges bad week, 'could have done without' Heidi Cruz retweet | Fox News

Donald Trump has said he can hardly remember the last time he apologized, but the GOP presidential front-runner on Sunday expressed at least some regret after a series of campaign missteps.

"I guess not" Trump said on “Fox News Sunday,” when asked during a taped interview about whether last week was the best of his campaign.

But on Sunday, the New York real estate magnate said he’s been a politician for just eight months and is still learning.

“There is always a learning curve,” he said.

Trump said on CNN last week that he couldn’t exactly recall when he last apologized, perhaps when his mother scolded him for using profanity.

Or maybe not...

Fox seems to be turning a bit towards the reality of Trump as their man. They don't like it, and are doing it begrudgingly, but they've kind of gotten on the bandwagon, just to try to be antagonistic and provocative towards Dems.

So is MSNBC doing it just to be antagonistic towards the GOP?

Provided anyone actually watched their network of course.

Depends on when you watch. Mika and of course Hayes, Madow, and O'Donnell are clearly Dem partisans. But Joe is a Republican. And they put on a number of more neutral folks to talk issues throughout the day here and there.

Fox right now is 90 percent email scandal, 10 percent apoplexy about Trump. That's all they talk about. But it's good click bait for their natural audience.

Actually, they are leading with the Amtrack crash, but no big deal.

Fox is leading with the email scandal (as well as the other items Hillary is involved in) for a good reason, because the others won't report on it. It's hard having to report anything bad on your chosen candidate as they have been fawning over her since well before she declared for the candidacy. And with everything she's been involved in, they just take a "ho hum, but do you know what TRUMP SAID?!?!?!?!" mentality towards what should be a political killer of a scandal. And you want to talk about apoplectic? Let's talk about how they will react when the DNC goes to a contested or brokered convention and they have to pick between feeling the Bern or Hillary for Herself. (copyright, trademark on "Hillary for Herself") And if Bernie gets the nod, just think about how they will feel when their hand picked candidate gets moved out of the way again.

Oh, the meltdown will be glorious.

You REALLY think anything will come of that? Nah. The playbook is that once the announcement is that she's cleared, the GOP and Fox will bemoan that for a week. Then, the Benghazi committee will issue it's report. The faux scandal machine is all you have left.

The GOP has come to the point now that it stands for absolutely nothing. It has no coherent agenda, and no purpose other than for its monied interests to try to cling to power. The Dem party is also about power, but they do have at least a semblance of societal purpose.

The GOP is in its death throes. But take heart. Perhaps a party solely devoted to national financial responsibility may rise from the ashes.

Why do you think the Benghazi committee is mum right now? Just waiting for best moment for their political hatchet job. So predictable. So pathetic.

Pathetic is your defense of anything surrounding this Administration. Even when facts smack you in the face, you love to ignore them and troll on and on and on.

But keep up the good fight in thinking nothing will come of this email probe. She may not serve a day in jail, she may get pardoned by Obama, but make no mistake this situation has enough heat that something will happen.

If there were any evidence that her emails got hacked by outside intelligence agencies I'd agree. But short of that, nah.

When FBI Counter-Intelligence are part of the investigation that alone shows that they believe foreign intelligence agencies obtained access to the server.
