2016 DNC Discussion

I've seen aircraft needing parts parked for months on the ramp due to budget issues.

Clinton and Obama presidencies, ironic isn't it?

My son has been in for the past 7 years. The stories he tells me of all the things they are doing to cut expenditures. It is scary and sad.

My first 7 months, Jimmy Carter was president. A couple years after Reagan took the office, it was like that part in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy opened the door and transitioned from black and white to color. What a difference.

If violent crime is as record lows why do we need more gun laws?

We don't. That's why it's amusing that Trump has managed to sell this lie. He is selling the same sort of sensationalist media narrative we've been hearing to prop up gun control for years now even though this is the safest time to be an American citizen since the early 60s.

I'll assume this is rhetorical, because I don't believe more gun laws are necessary.

The drive is to expand background checks to keep guns out of the hands of mentally disturbed people like the lunatic who slaughtered the innocents at New Town and john Hinckley who tried to murder Ronald Reagan. Throw in the people on the no fly list.

How does a law prevent someone from doing something? Do laws against drugs stop people from getting drugs? Why don't laws on murder prevent murder? How are any crimes committed when there is a statute saying that act is illegal?

They haven't as far as I know.

You have a link?

Look, we Democrats have always had plenty of differences with the Republican Party, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s precisely this contest of idea that pushes our country forward. But what we heard in Cleveland last week wasn’t particularly Republican—and it sure wasn’t conservative. What we heard was a deeply pessimistic vision of a country where we turn against each other, and turn away from the rest of the world. There were no serious solutions to pressing problems—just the fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate.

And that is not the America I know. The America I know is full of courage, and optimism, and ingenuity. The America I know is decent and generous. Sure, we have real anxieties—about paying the bills, and protecting our kids, caring for a sick parent. We get frustrated with political gridlock, and worry about racial divisions. We are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice. There are pockets of America that never recovered from factory closures; men who took pride in hard work and providing for their families who now feel forgotten; parents who wonder whether their kids will have the same opportunities that we had.

All of that is real. We are challenged to do better; to be better.

But as I’ve traveled this country, through all 50 states, as I’ve rejoiced with you and mourned with you, what I have also seen, more than anything, is what is right with America. I see people working hard and starting businesses. I see people teaching kids and serving our country. I see engineers inventing stuff, doctors coming up with new cures. I see a younger generation full of energy and new ideas, not constrained by what is, ready to seize what ought to be.

And most of all, I see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger together—black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young, old; gay, straight; men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance, under the same proud flag, to this big, bold country that we love. That's what I see. That's the America I know!

Obama was incredibly effective during this portion of his speech.

Then he'll definitely have my vote. Piss on the dirty stinking 99%.

This forum is definitely populated by what the politicos define as the "unreachable" . Many elected gop officials haven't endorsed trump but they'll pinch there nostrils together and vote for him. George Will , a long time conservative won't endorse him. "The I've got mine screw you crowd " is the make up of the gop.

The DOD needs to have more accountability. We are still spending more on the Military than in anytime in history and you're saying it's not enough? Bush didn't spend as much in his 8 years as Obama has in his 8. GTFO, the military needs to be held accountable for mismanagement of the funds given.

the problem is congress telling them how to spend it. Building tanks we don't want or need for districts.

I will admit there's a lot of FW&A in the military. Yet there's a hotline you can call but it doesn't do any good.

That's a good question to ask trump, but he wouldn't have the answer, according to him he really knows how to manipulate the system, he has the millions to prove it.

“Our power doesn’t come from some self-declared savior promising that he alone can restore order as long as we do things his way,” he said. “We don’t look to be ruled.” - Obama

Gee whiz, I feel like Obama is writing his own autobiography here!

Thank the dems for not being able to pinpoint the mentally ill for what they are. Go read your history starting in the late '60's through the next 15-20 years. It's their fault, yet, no one can remember these things........."it's not right, not legal, it's not fair, it's not right to impede upon their personal freedom and lives....."

My mom was a Doctor in the late's 60's through the 70's and 80's and eventually retired due to the ever present government intervention into medicine and health care. They fudged it up, they felt they could tell those in the medical profession what was right when they didn't have one clue as to what they were talking about. Sorta similar to that pos healthcare act pushed through without anyone knowing what the f*** they were passing..........

But on the other hand, we have a party that offers no solution . Other western nations have health care figured out, our politics stand in the way.
