2015 NBA Playoff Thread

Rockets aren't a bad team at all. Howard isn't quite as dominant as he could be, but he doesn't need to be. Josh Smith is finally playing some good basketball, I hardly recognized him at times this season. T. Jones is really solid, does a lot of things very well. Last year he was destroyed by Lamarcus in the playoffs, but this season he improved outside of health issues. Beverly is one of the most underrated point guards in the league imo. They have some decent role players that can have big games every once in a while too.

That's the problem though those guys weren't playing with JH a lot of the year. Dwight 41, Jones 33, Beverly 56 and Smith 55 games with Harden. Smith might be playing better but he still makes dumb*** mistakes and can't shoot for ****.

I disagree on Aldridge vs Jones. Aldridge torched everyone on the Rockets, including Asik....for 3 games. He was terrible in the other 3 games. I don't think you can really judge Jones' defense based on that series.

Also, anybody notice how bad LA was this time around? He shot 18+ times per game and all 5 games his FG% was between 27% and 38%

I wasn't basing it. Guess I was just stating a fact. He improved his defense (albeit only playing like 30 games) and has developed into a reliable option for the Rockets. I don't think he should start, but he worked well when he did.

Fair point.

Who should start at PF?

Honestly, I think Jones is their 3rd best player behind JH and Ariza and was actually better than Ariza this year when he did play.

Howard is obviously a better talent than either of them, but he hasn't played great in Houston, yet. Maybe due to aging?

That's the problem. They don't. Jones is forced to start and credit him for actually being really good. Smith, Motiejunas, Dorsey, Papa. etc...A lot of decent role players I guess.

Howard went through a few health problems. And yeah he has aged. But I think he's finally in a place where he doesn't need to be a dominant force. If he is, then it's gravy on top. He can just feed off Harden/others and then play his usual defense. I wish at some point he would have accepted being a pick and roll player at times. He is very effective at it but refuses to do it.

53.1% of his possessions are post-ups where he ranks #128 and scores 0.77 PPP. Not great. 20% of those possessions end up with turnovers.

Only 7.1% of his possessions are as the roll man. I realize that does not account for all of his PnRs as this doesn't include PnRs that result in a PG shot or pass to a spot up shooter. But 7.1% seems insanely low, especially considering that he ranks #3 in the leauge with 1.31 PPP!

Since I'm bored

Wiz in 6
Bulls in 7

GS in 6
DNGAF

A month ago I thought it'd be crazy to expect anything other than a Hawks/Cavs final but right now I think there's a decent chance it happens. Hawks must win game 2. Wizards were actually right behind the Hawks/Cavs for home wins. So I hope they can at least win one at home and make it last 6 or 7. That's where I feel it's headed. Cavs are still dangerous but I think the Bulls will overpower in 6. Love will leave and Cavs will probably make some offseason moves again.

GS will win in 5. Memphis looked bad, like really bad at times yesterday. Yes, they are banged up. But GS matches up really well and the Memphis will be lucky to score 90 a game with how they play. Clippers/Rockets will probably go to 6 or 7. Depends on how Paul/Harden do imo.

They wanted to spend a grip on Bosh. How bad would that have been? Jones is giving them more than they would have gotten from Bosh* at a bargain rate. Bosh's deal falling through made them miss out on Parsons, too, but they ended up getting Ariza for less, and he had a better season than Parsons.

Factor in Parsons and Bosh's injuries, and the Rockets got so lucky. Maybe in the long run the Parsons deal won't look this way, but holy crap, the Bosh deal would have sunk them.

*A few less PPG, but more efficient, and better rebounding

GS has a lot more firepower this year, but to say they match up well against Memphis... based on what?

When Conley is on the floor alongside Allen, the Grizz can defend the perimeter well. GS has no way to stop Memphis down low. Most people would say that Memphis matches up well against GS, not vice versa.

Without Conley, Memphis has no hope. If Conley were healthy all 7 games, this series would go the distance.

Based on what? Stats and simple eye test. I think Gasol and Zbo can get theirs most games, but it won't be easy because Green/Bogut are actually a pretty good combo together defensively. I completely agree that Conley/Allen can defend the perimeter well. Against most teams Allen would be able to do enough to slow down offenses. But this is GS, and probably the best backcourt in basketball right now.

The only chance Memphis has, even with Conley is that guys like Calathes/Carter/Lee/Udrih/Green have big games throughout the series. They just don't have the offense to keep pace and I'm not sure even the best defense can slow GS down that much. They'll have to hope the Warriors have bad shooting nights. They'll have to hope Conley comes back 100% without being bothered by a mask and the injury.

It's just too many "hope-fors and ifs" to make me confident the Grizz can take this past 5. They'll definitely make a run and not go down quick, but if game 1 was any example this could be a very anti-climatic series.

With Conley, Memphis has no hope, IMO. Memphis is tougher inside, but Bogut and Green are still both very good players and Green is the best of all 4 of them, right now. Green outrebounded Gasol and Bogut, for hell's sake.
