2014 Damn NBA Playoffs Thread

A rod is probably the right answer Lebron has a ton of fans and haters. A rod only has haters really.

The reasons for the hate are completely different. A-Rod is known for being a lousy teammate, superficial and a flat out cheater. His hate is beyond justifiable.

No, he said "not 7". So at the very least he predicted 8. I get that it was a pep rally and he was trying to hype everyone up, but then he doubled down on it all by saying he wasn't just blowing smoke up everyone's ass. I think they honestly thought they were going to win the title every year for close to a decade.

No offense, but this is just silly. I think he honestly thought he could win 3 or 4, but there is no way he thought that core of guys was going to stick together for 8 championships. Even if he thinks they're good enough, they're too old for that. When they got to "not 7", it clearly became hyperbole, in my mind.

Wade used to be one of my favorite players, then he turned into a toddler.

I actually like Wade more than when he was "the guy". I can't fault him for it, but I felt like all he ever tried to do was get to the line*, and I couldn't stand watching him. I think since becoming #2, he doesn't have to carry the team as much, and he plays more exciting basketball.

*Just checked the stats, and he used to shoot 10 FTA per 36 and now just 5.2

That was exactly what he did, and he's paid a price for playing that way for so long. I have no doubt that all that abuse he took going to the rim early in his career has been a major factor on why he's only 32 and has already been in the "breaking down" phase of his career for a couple years.

I thought most players as they get older shoot more outside?

That's a good point. But I checked and the stats don't support it. In 2007 when he shot 10 FTA per 36, 39% of his shots were "at rim", according to basketball-reference. This year 42% were "at rim". I'm surprised by that.

IMO, he wasn't just attacking the rim, he was doing everything in his power to draw contact. Also he would frequently throw himself on the ground without being touched, and he'd get foul calls (how he earned 2 game-winning FTs against my Jazz when Kirlinko blocked his jump shot well after the release).

Update: Putting more thought into it....if you are fouled going to the basket, it is not counted as a FGA, so undoubtedly many of those extra 5 FTA per 36 from 2007 would have been shots around the rim, so I bet he did attack more, but not by much.

He definitely is not seeking contact like he use to.

Also, can we get a mod to nuke this thread, we have the finals thread.
