2014 Damn NBA Playoffs Thread

He's a great third banana, but somebody's going to give him a big contract and try to build around him like the Hawks did when they traded for Joe Johnson a decade ago. And it won't work any better than that did.

Well said. The stuff that makes him so fun to watch also comes with a downside. You can live with it when you've got guys like PG, David West, and at one time that feels like a lifetime ago, Hibbert, to pick up the slack when he's playing like that. When he's your centerpiece, I can imagine it would be infuriating.

Serious question for Smalls: have the Indiana Pacers ever lost a game that most of their fans didn't blame on the refs? Ever?

I think that's probably the case with a lot of fanbases, but the Pacers fans may be worse than others about it. The only other guy on here who is a big Pacers fan is TOP, and I know he was REALLY bad about it. He checked out of the NBA talk when I basically told him to quit with the whining after he claimed the fix was in during the first half of the Pacers second regular season game this year.

I said after Game 1 when Indy lived at the foul line all afternoon that there would be no room for complaining when some games came along where the Heat got the better end of the calls, and I'll stick to that. Over the course of a playoff series, things tend to balance out for both teams.

Paul George on the refs:

"It's just demoralizing when [the free throws are] lopsided," George said. "I mean, I'm sorry to say, but that was the case. How rare is it we shoot 50 percent, turn the ball over around 13 or so times, outrebound a team and lose a ballgame? I thought we did a great job. I just thought we did a great job. ... But, again, they made 30 free throws, and that put them over the edge."

There's a perfectly logical explanation, PG...the Heat had 9 fewer turnovers and they made their FTs (Pacers made 64%).

Gosh imagine if Bron ever said that.

I didn't watch the game, though. So can't really comment on the zebras.

It probably was called in the Heat's favor, but not by much, and that's normal for a home team. Say they made 2 bad calls in the Pacer's favor and 6 in the Heat's favor*, that's probably a difference of 6-8 FTs at the most, which was not the difference in the game. Heat coasted to victory and won by 12.

Point is, it would have to be a lot of bad calls to make the difference in this game, and it wasn't that bad.

*In the moment, to any Pacer fan, or Paul George, you would perceive a giant disparity because of your bias. Games will be called evenly and fans still think it's uneven, so they go way overboard when it is truly uneven.

Read this morning that Miami drove to the basket 27 times last night to the Pacers' 10. You would expect a basketball player to understand that that's how you get such a giant disparity in FT attempts. Maybe Paul George would be a better offensive player himself if he figured that out.

yup. if the FT disparity is so demoralizing, go to the bucket. as huff mentioned, heat only having 5 turnovers is pretty darn impressive.

Damn the pacers are so horrid they're more entertaining off the court and with post game conferences than the games.

As Michael smith on numbers never lie if talking a lot won championships Than the pacers would be a dynasty.

I guess he forgot that Indy shot 37 FTs in game 1?

Or that Indy currently has the highest amount of free throws for a playoff game
Pacers have become the new Knicks except they're proving to be fools gold with the number one seed.

I guess let's be original get in excuses before getting eliminated.

So overreaction as if all are conspiring for their team to lose.
You are going to have unevenness but not great unevenness constantly if it ever does happen. I think 10 is getting into greatly uneven.

Shouldn't be shocking refs are human they want to be liked not booed so don't be shocked that you'll see more calls in favor of home teams.
No fan wants to see players on their team get technical fouls but there are ones that are avoidable and I'm amazed they boo as if they can't take of the dang colored whatever team they cheer for glasses.

Great teams find ways to overcome these problems not having calls go your way, teams that aren't great give excuses, and quit.
It's obvious which one the pacers are.

Saw today that if Lebron went 0-60 next game he would still have a better fg % than Durant in the playoffs.

I couldn't believe that it was true, so I checked the math, and it is. Holy ****. It should be noted that Durant is taking a lot more 3s (like 35% more).

Not saying it's the only reason, but level of competition does factor some. Grizz, Clippers, Spurs vs Bobcats, Nets, and Pacers is pretty lopsided.

Why the notoriousben is in my basement comments?

Game four prediction
Thunder beat the spurs in a close game going down to the wire 105-100, Durant scores 32 points.

Cause Ben's a bum and sleeps in people's basements, he was in Huffs last month.
