2014 Damn NBA Playoffs Thread

I must be having flashbacks from the seventies. That's two posts in the same thread that have me scratching my head.

It's kind of a crappy picture. Once you posted that, I looked at it and could easily see how it looks like a piece of chicken. Hopefully there will be a better picture of the banner show up in the next few days.

"World Cup"? What is that? I'm assuming something totally irrelevant or surely I'd have heard of it.

:birgits_giggle:

It's definitely not happening this year, but who knows, maybe someday.

I'd say the odds are better that the US wins it one of these days than they are that you ever see the light and stop being such a stick in the mud about soccer. :)

Exactly soccer isn't a boring sport.

Soccer is boring to people who aren't well-versed in strategy, much like grappling is boring for fans that are new to MMA. Even if the fighters are active and super technical, new MMA fans get bored with it. I found both soccer and grappling boring, until I watched a lot more.

Nope, soccer sucks.

I'm a huge soccer fan, but don't get caught up the strategy a whole lot. I just enjoy that play never stops, and the game isn't constantly getting interrupted for commercials.

I find it odd that so many people complain about a 90 minute game where the ball is in play for the full 90 and lasts an hour and 45 minutes from kickoff to final whistle being boring, yet are entertained by a 60 minute game that gets drug out over 3 1/2-4 hours and the true action MAYBE amounts to 20 minutes. Different strokes, I guess.

Soccer is boring to people that like real sports. Every sport takes strategy, so that statement doesn't make a lot of sense.

I used to think you were cool. Lol It's just not a sport i could get into personally, much like Golf and Nascar. But I can watch beach volleyball all day, and a lot of tennis. As you said different strokes.

The Thunder had 23 possessions last game in which they didn't pass the ball once...Russ had 17 of those. Lol Damn he makes it hard to defend him sometimes.

But you understand the strategy in the sports you watch. It's part of the attraction. The point is that if you don't understand the strategy, the sport is not as attractive.

Soccer is definitely an acquired taste, and with or being so different from the most popular sports here in the US, I can see how people find it boring. I've always been somewhat of a fan, but it's really shot up my list of favorites over the past 8-10 years as the top levels of the sport have become more widely televised here. It. The fact that due to safety concerns, football is quickly becoming unrecognizable compared with the version of the game I grew up watching has played a big role in that too.

Anyways, enough soccer talk in here before Ben's head explodes, LOL.

Yeah but you don't understand every sport you watch for the first time. Something has to grab your attention initially, and make you want to understand it. Soccer doesn't do that, so not understanding is not why I don't watch. Much like a television series, something has to grab your attention or you won't care about the plot as much.

Part of it for me probably goes back to my school not having soccer too, and me never playing it. My favorite sports, football, basketball, volleyball, and MMA through boxing are all sports I played.

I played basketball for a few years when I was young, but baseball was the only one I really enjoyed or was any good at. Me and a bunch of friends played an insane amount of volleyball in the summers the first few years after I got out of HS. It was a lot of fun.
