This sounds bad, but I'd guess that we end up having an extra spot come available and not from our current commits if you catch my drift.

Never too early to start looking ahead to Butch Jones' first recruiting class at Tennessee. The 2014 class should be filled with Vol legacies and a tremendous amount of in-state talent. We lose a lot of seniors after 2013 so expect a class in excess of 25 recruits. I am sure I have forgotten some names, so let me know and I will update. The (*) indicates the recruit is a Vol legacy. UT can sign a maximum of 30 players in the 2014 class as long as 5 of those are early enrollees.

Dunno if there's a thread wholly dedicated to this, but if not already posted, can one of you recruitniks out there summarize how our class was affected by the Rivals updated rankings?

-Who rank rose? Who dropped spots (if significant)?
-Who gained stars (other than Henderson)? Who lost stars (if any)?

It would be nice to hear that more of our guys rose, giving me confidence this isn't going to be a repeat of '07, where only a handful of that elite group came to fruition.

Only Butch knows for sure. I thought 30 was the limit, including the EEs, but it must be more because the staff seems to be going pedal to the metal and no end seems to be in sight.

Maybe they believe some of the current commits are soft and are hedging against some decommiting. Or, they want to grab as many of the best players they can get and tell the rest to look elsewhere or gray shirt. Or, there could be a Jones loophole that he is rumored to have.

Whatever the answer is, I am sure that Butch has a plan. What is likely he knows his task is to get the best players for the program, as possible, and stay within the rules. I believe he will do what is necessary to get the best players regardless of hurt feelings and resentment of those who get cut out, if any. If anyone is cut out, he has to weigh the cost of resentment and bad publicity versus fielding the best possible team that he can get. We can only speculate until NSD.
