2014 Current Commits/Targets

Quoted for ease

Never too early to start looking ahead to Butch Jones' first recruiting class at Tennessee. The 2014 class should be filled with Vol legacies and a tremendous amount of in-state talent. We lose a lot of seniors after 2013 so expect a class in excess of 25 recruits. I am sure I have forgotten some names, so let me know and I will update. The (*) indicates the recruit is a Vol legacy. UT can sign a maximum of 30 players in the 2014 class as long as 5 of those are early enrollees.

I don't know much about the new recruit D-lineman! Are any of them animals, I mean beasts because that was difference to me in the Vol teams of the 1990's and early 2000's...we had NFL linemen coming out from everywhere, even our back ups then were being drafted

Yeah, I've been saying that our demise coincided with our suckitude at recruiting DT. Not DE... That position is much easier to recruit.. There's a lot of them. But DT has been our Achilles. Funny how great DT's go hand in hand with wins. It's a lot easier to score 21 and win 21-20 than it is to have to score 40 every game. Lambert and Williams are who were pinning our hopes on. Lambert would be considered very good. Williams I'm not sure about but he's got very similar numbers

With a month and a half until signing day, does our "realistic" final recruits look similar to this:

Derrell Scott
Andrew Williams
Adoree Jackson
Benjamin Knox

Quote:
I'd say add Bo Scarborough to that list as Tennessee has a chance of getting one of his last two official visits. I think Andrew Williams is going to go to either Auburn or Clemson.

Scarborough, Jackson, Knox, Scott is probably it, unless the Derrick Kelly gives the Vols a look but I think he's all but a lock for FSU.

I think this staff wants to very much hold on to who they have and then if they can make room for one or two of those guys, which will be very tough.

just in case you want to update the targets list

Updated with signings of Pearson, Blair, and Williams and decommitment of Lambert.

Sucks about Lambert....so that is only two DT's committed and none on our target list? Is there anybody else we are looking at? Would love to get Heurtelou if we can.

could all end up at DT

That's the positive way of looking at it, but our defense will play small in the middle or soft in the middle, until these guys develop. O'Brien and Williams are really going to have to bring it. Mosley and Barnett will get some playing time at DT ready or not.

You forget we have Saulsberry as well. He was a beast before he got hurt

The '98 National Championship team wasn't big a DT either. That's positive.

Auburn's DL is not big either, but considering they got Lambert who would play small at DT, that's not so positive.

I do believe DT is the hardest position to recruit SEC caliber players. Every year, up or down on signing day we seem to run one quality DT short of where we would like to be.

Question about additional DL recruits for 2014. Several of the for-fee sites are saying that we are still recruiting additional DL. Does anyone know who we have on our board as options? I've not seen any discussion on this. Thanks.

We are not at this time. May see a name or two pop up in January, but I doubt it.

Sorry if already posted ... when do the Freshmen EE's show up on campus and enroll in school? Are they considered 'signed' at that point?

Bumping the update. Has the Brandon Powell ship sailed?

Can we update the OP with the jucos to read "signed loi" for Blair, pearson, and Williams? Also should probably note when the others get on campus soon as it happens.

Can someone help me out here? I thought there might a thread regarding this but does anyone know when the Under Armor and Army All-American games are and which of our commits are playing in it?
