2013 OFFICIAL SIGNING DAY THREAD!!! (first post will be updated)

That's stupid on his dad's part plain and simple. I'm not blaming an 18 year old kid for chosing a different school. But for his dad to make a statement like that just shows his ignorance. So dooley didn't recruit him hard, Jones did. CUM didn't recruit him from day 1 either but he chose OSU. bell went to OSU because he wanted to and he didn't want to go to UT

Agree this was a stupid statement. Dooley is not here, and Jones did everything he possibly could. This is a poor excuse. He knew UT wanted him, and all he had to do was SIGN THE PAPERS!

Simple fact is, he did not want to compete in the SEC. His heart was not here, therefore, we did not need him.
He can enjoy sucking up to Urban until Meyer has another breakdown when the pressure gets to him.

We are Tennessee, and we will be just fine. Jones is going to do great things here with players who really want to be here.

Go Vols!

one more quote from the Syracuse newspaper that really stood out to me on brown who as of 9:30 last night had not made up his mind "So when the resumes were compared and the schools analyzed side-by-side, Tennessee proved to be the most attractive. Tennessee's Butch Jones succeeded in wooing Brown, proving that he and his staff built the strongest relationships".

There are a lot of good football players around the country, a lot of 2 star/3 star kids who are better than their rankings, or still developing, and who end up at schools other than the top-tier programs, places like Cincy and NC State and southern mississippi. We've got to evaluate, spot and land the best of these diamonds in the rough, which will give us a solid foundation so that we can then chase the blue-chips. Because of our record over the last decade, we're recruiting at something of a disadvantage against the big boys--even though UT brings a ton to the table--when it comes to landing the top 100 types. This means that that lower-star kids that we sign have to be solid. If we do that, we can be competitive, win SEC games, and then get back our recruiting mojo.

Most of the fans on this board would take this as an insult. Most of them believe they understand the recruiting process. I don't and I have no problem saying so. :)

Agree armchair. The great thing about CBJ coming from mid major at Central Michigan and then moving up to Cincy where they aren't getting alot of 4 and 5 star kids is that he has had to evaluate and coach up. And he's stated that character is a big part of that evaluation process. I'd rather win the games than win the battle for stars on NSD and let's talk up the ones we have and not waste time on the ones we don't.

Bottom line is Urban oscar Meyer weiner is a dirty weasel. If he threw bull$#@% in V. Bell's face and convinced him to go up there to that hell hole then oh well. Meyer will put in his 6 to 8 years up there get tired of the grind and quit just like he did at Florida. By the way I find it ironic that the same school that had its basketball coach (Thad Motta) turn in info on Bruce Pearl takes away a 5* in-state player that grew up a vol fan.

So Rivals has UT at 21, candy at 20. Had we gotten Bell we would have been at about #18. The reason candy is ahead of us is purely the number of commits. They signed 4 more kids and of their total 1 less 4 and 5 more 3's. Another decent season by candy and their coach will be gone together with those kids that can play from this year's class and next year's.
