2013 OFFICIAL SIGNING DAY THREAD!!! (first post will be updated)

I'm sorry but I don't buy this. His dad is going to blame UT for Dooley not recruiting him. CBJ went as hard or harder after this kid than anyone. I guess that doesn't count for anything. This is just a cop out in my opinion.

I'm sure if anyone would know more about the motivating factors for Von Bell than his own father, it would definitely be you :lolabove:

The Volunteers sent four coaches to his house in Riviera Beach at the same time, convincing Brown to at least take an official visit to Knoxville, which he did in late January. He found himself in awe of Neyland Stadium and the Vol Walk, wowed by the fan base that he described as "ridiculous" and superior to that of Syracuse. this is what was quoted in a syracuse newspaper after coming out that Brown had switched and committed to VOLS

All hope and glory are fleeting. We wont be able to compete with classes like this..... I know some of you say well we were in it with the big shot 4 & 5 star guys. Just Being in it and actually signing are two different things. If they aint signing just being in it dont mean ****.

Since when can a top 25 class not compete? Seems to me it happens every single year.

Here we sit on national signing day.
Waiting and wondering which direction they will sway.
Which team will he pick we all sit and stare,
waiting on him to raise the Vols hat in the air.
We clap and we Boom when Big Orange has been raised,
But when another is chosen we rant and we rave.
We get all pissed off at what we thought could have been,
When most should just know its really not the end.
So lets all stand up proud and root for this class,
and tell the ones who went elsewhere to kiss our BIG ORANGE A@@!!!!!

My exact question? Does Malik Brown end the day for us? Any other surprises?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more kids get taken in the next few weeks/months with so many open spots left (just like Phillips last year). Probably nothing groundbreaking though. I'd say we're done for today. JMO.

aTm and Bama say Hi. :whistling:

I'm honestly okay with a smaller class this year. Leaves more room for all the legacies next year. Bold prediction - UT signs a top 5 national recruiting class next season. Bash away.

If we can pull an upset or two on the field this year and keep the other games competitive, I'll predict a Top 10 class next year.

That is my thinking as well. People will hopefully be accusing us of buying all the kids off like Ole Miss this year.

Somebody a page or two back said that we had to subtract 45 points for Quinn being 2 star and lowest rated recruit, that would drop us back to 1820 and still behind Frankenweenie.

I went to check a minute ago and we only had 1820...so it must be true. That is bogus though...

People have a pretty unrealistic set of expectations for this program right now, we have had two winning seasons since 2007 and people still expect 5* players to come here. I'm not saying that we should settle for less but until the product on the field changes we have no right to expect the best and brightest of recruits to set foot on that field. Given the issues this program has, to land a top 20 class is fantastic and hopefully Butch Jones can have this team winning games again and start getting us to the post season again, if he does we will stop missing out on the Vonn Bell's of the world. I for one am hopeful and look forward to watching this team climb out of the basement, if we do, it'll be a whole lot of fun to watch. So relax and enjoy it.

I agree with the bolded point and I wasnt high on Butch when he was hired but its hard to say he did a bad job considering the amount of time he had and the rumors of the previous staff just stopped recruiting. I'm going to hold off on bashing or praising Butch for the first year and see how he does. Unless we just dont compete and get blown out and have a horrible record early on.

this makes no sense. It is a direct quote saying its Dooley's fault. And you say it cannot be blamed on Dooley. How do you figure? This should be good

Just because it is a direct quote does not mean that it is a plausible reason. Why hold CBJ accountable for what Dooley did or did not do? CBJ went above and beyond trying to prove to this kid how much they wanted him. Bell's dad knows how much most fans can't stand Dooley and so he used him as the reason for him not choosing UT in order to quell some of the anger from them to Dooley.
