2013 Current Commits/Targets (UPDATED)

Yeah I just realized I was doing the same thing when looking at team rankings.. We are 38th in the composite ranking and 42th in the 247 ranking. It's cool to see how 247's rankigns compare to that of the combined industry but it is confusing, especially when you aren't used to it.

What do you think are our chances with North?

Of the 4 elite prospects (North, Green, Lawson, Bell) we have a shot at, I think we have the best chance at landing North.

FYI, our average star rating on 247 is 31st in the country. Not calling jason a liar, I know he's a good poster.. but maybe he hasn't looked at it lately.

Rivals has our average star rating tied for 21st in the country (at 3.24).

That star rating is better than eight teams currently ranked in the top 25 in recruiting ratings (again, according to Rivals).

Based on this, I think finishing in the top 15-20 is possible (although we'll probably have to sign a couple of 4-5 stars to end up closer to 15th).

Someone in Carl Lawson's thread said Peyton Barber, RB commit for Ole Miss, is going to visit 1-11 with his best friend Carl Lawson..

Im not a stargazer but I think we need a little momentum and it would be good to receive a verbal from at least one of the highly ranked, highly sought after targets.

I agree but good things come to those to wait. Fact of the matter Jones and company are now recruiting a higher caliber player than they were a few weeks ago and they have a lot of catching up to do. My guess is you will see some big time commits come during the OVs or shortly thereafter. Tweets from coaches are positive! We will RISE TO THE TOP one inch at a time. Go Vols!!!!!

Is it early to be VERY concerned with our LB recruiting? We cut a few guys loose and it seems we had no back up plan or no LBs ready to be Vols. Looking at what is available, I think it looks bad myself.

I feel the same way. That and our defensive tackle recruiting. We don't have a true DT currently committed unless Carr will convert and even he seems shaky. After next year the only DTs on the roster are O'Brien and Saulsberry

Free visits mean absolutely nothing. Only deal that matters is National Signing Day . I am glad to get them to campus for a look though. With our record I am surprised they even want to visit.

Getting them on campus is the first step and its impressive that he and his staff has some of these guys listening in such a short period of time. Although I hope we pull some of these guys, I expect nothing this year. He needs to solidify base for his system. If he does that and wins, the rest will come.

How do any of you all feel about Charlie High, The CAK quarterback? He has great stats and has won 2 state titles in a row. This kid is a winner and has a great arm... Why wouldn't we want a guy like this to come and play here.

I would love to see Charlie walk on at UT. He could earn a scholarship after a year or 2 if he showed he could perform at an SEC level. I think it's a win-win. He can come to Tennessee(which I think he wants to) and UT would get it's emergency 4th QB in case of injury. I would not be surprised if he was on ship by his RS SO year.

So no chance we offer a scholarship? I think the connection between him and Josh smith could continue to be beautiful at the college level

Charlie High will not be offered a scholarship at any major D1 program. We gave him multiple chances to earn one this summer and he showed he couldn't cut it.

Ah okay, I was just wondering... Seems crazy that he broke all those record but he's no good. Thanks for the knowledgeable insight though. Do you think he walks on to tennessee?

I don't think our coaches felt he was no good, just not the prototype QB they were looking for. CBJ said he has certain things he looks for in players at each position as in height, weight, and things of that nature. I'm sure CDD was the same. I do think if CH were to walk on, he could very well impress enough to go on scholarship. You don't break passing records like he did and can't throw the ball. It would be huge IMO if he walked on. IMO, no way would I then take 2 QBs in this class if I were CBJ. Just take Riley, let CH walk on, and go after Barker for 2014.

Why would we take 3 TEs, given our needs elsewhere? Would be a terrible move IMO
