2012 will be Dooleys last year

As painful as it is, we might as well wait it out. As long as he continues to set the table for the next guy with nice recruiting classes, I can stand him. That's the ONLY redeeming quality I can think of with regard to his performance so far.

Rushing to replace him with some unproven guy from Podunk U or a mediocre guy from a mediocre program would kill us, but if we wait for the right opportunity to upgrade him, I think we'll be back in the right direction.

At this point Dooley's not even a factor to me. I've put all of my confidence in Dave Hart from here on out.

All that talent from the last two classes will bolt, and on top of that the combination of Dooley and Fulmer's buyouts will prevent us from hiring anybody better.

Canning Dooley right now cannot possibly end in any other way than UT becoming irrelevant and a .500 ball club for many years to come.

We're not a .500 ball club now and I don't care what the schedule has on it...we just lost to KENTUCKY with a WR at quarterback. Imagine what they'll do to us next year with a real quarterback. Fire Dooley today!

A lot of mixed feelings: Doolander negotiates a high buy out but not his own OC. Bray is a Kiffin recruity and the jury is still out on him. If the principle is to let Chaney make his own calls this year there is some integrity in living or dying with that decision as it were. I suspect that those of you who are saying DD gets more time are right but he has a mess on his hands. Maybe the players will have some loyalty. Answers aren't gonna be here anytime in the next few months, though Feb. will be interesting.

Say we look like crap next year and he's fired. What is the upside of keeping him another year besides saving the class? There is no point in wasting another year.

3 solid recruiting years under our belt

No real solid coaches available right now

Not sold on Sumlin

Most of the others turned us down when Dooley was hired

Need to make sure we have a person lined up before we pull the firing trigger

Thats what killed us before.

Welcome to the board.

I figured this fan base would have learned the pitfalls of getting rid of a coach without having the opportunity to find a good replacement. Guess not.

When have I been anything but reserved?

I want Dooley to succeed because he is the coach at UT

No other reasons

Just because I choose to wait and see instead of calling for heads right now doesnt make me a Doolaid drinker

Just means I'm not a fool

If you had to wait to make a call on Dooley, then you are rather foolish. It isn't a close call.

After next year he will have been given a legitimate chance to win with a team of mostly his own guys. That will make a big difference to a coach that's thinking of being the next guy.

Prospective coaches aren't going to break down game film and figure out whether it's Dooley's fault. All they'll see is a guy who took over nothing, brought in two good recruiting classes, and then got fired because he couldn't win with freshmen and sophomores. Nobody's going to want to step into that situation.

If you cant see what he was handed when he came here, I will do no good trying to explain it to you.

We will see after 2012. Thats why I said after 2012.

Hence, the title of the thread

The people begging for Dooley's head are completely delusional. UT just lost to Kentucky and it is not even a top story. It is a blurb on the front page and will be off as soon as more games take place.

This isn't 1998. No big name wants this job. This program is nationally irrelevant and competes with minimal in-state talent in the toughest conference in college football.

This idea that winning this game and going to a bowl would have any lasting significance for the program is childish. What gets better with 10 more practices?

We lost, it sucks, stop bashing 18 year old players, and either come back next year or dont.

I know what he was handed. Unlike you and others I can still examine him given those circumstance. What he was given doesn't earn him a blank check.

We just lost to UK and a WR. Anyone that needs help understanding this should stop watching football.

There is no point in delaying the inevitable. Dooley is a lame duck coach.

What does our 2012 schedule look like?

6-6 at best with this clown coaching us. I understand we need to keep him until next year, just wish we didn't have too. All of this won't matter a bit if we go the cheap route again when he is let go

1976 - 6-5
1977 - 4-7
1978 - 5-5
1979 - 7-5
1980 - 5-6
1981 - 8-4
1982 - 6-5

That 7 year span was not a lot of fun to go thru, we can survive and be stronger for it.

People liked Majors and respected him. He had cred. Dooley has lost widespread fan support and hasn't earned respect. He has a losing record and continues to build on it in impressive fashion. He will never be cut the same slack, times are different and stakes are higher. Dooley won't make it here. Tick tock.

People said the very same thing about Dabo Sweeney last year.
