2012 secondary

Orta, Tino Thomas ... kinda wild cards in that we don't know yet what they can do. Between those two, McNeill and Bonner ... hopefully somebody will emerge and contribute.

And Brewer has had some moments ... but I don't know that B.Moore won't beat him out for the other safety.

Improper technique was being taught. It was causing problems on the field, in some guys heads, and took away some instinct from some players. It also caused a problem with vocal former db's that played for UT but were taught differently. Lack of speed didn't help. Lanier looked like he had weights in his shoes.

I do remember towards the latter part of the year certain former Vols point out some techniques that were being taught and not being very impressed.

I was really excited when we hired Ansley, I don't know much about the safeties coach, but I think all together we will see a much better coaching in the secondary than we did last year.

I'm excited to see Prentiss play corner. He has shown flashes of being a top shelf corner in this league. But IMO he's an average to good safety. Added depth should allow him to remain at CB this year. He might be looking at a big year.

Well, he had a pick 6 on my first game of ncaa13 against uk.. Don't worry, I got revenge.. 56-14.. I had -150 in sportsmanship lol.. Hunter was player of the game..

That's the type of beatdown we need to hand UK this season for real.

He got burned a couple times in the O&W game.

Yeah the coaches have always seemed really high on him, but he got torched in the O&W game on a stutter go fly route by DR. He was able to catch up and tackle him around the 5 so he does have great recovery speed at least :S

Deion Bonner will be huge for us if he can stay out of trouble. He was pushing for a 5th star IIRC before his little fiasco and his offer list was damn impressive.

Just hard for me to get my hopes up for this guy.... Anything is possible, and people can claim all they want that "he was just a kid that learned from his mistakes" or whatever, but even at 17, hell even at 5, most people with half a brain would know not to do what he did...

The secondary will much improved due to the fact they are more experienced , and should be able to play faster.
Big plays are on the way. :loco: :hi:

I think how good our secondary will be, depends on how well they can adapt to the more physical approach Coach Sal favors. I'm pretty sure Waggner is locked in at corner and Randolph at safety and after that I think it will be whoever is the most physical. I do feel like we will get more INTs, but I worry a little about giving up some big plays. At worse I think we will be better than last year. Have a couple step it up we have a chance to be nasty.

I don't want us to give up big plays ... but I think maybe I'd rather us gamble and give up some of those, than yield the same 6/7 pts. while staying on the field for a grinding 10 minute drive while our offense fumes on the bench.

I honestly think we will see a different secondary this year. I think we will be able to put pressure on the qb. It seemed like last year. Wilcox just said I he was going to play soft. give up the dinks and dunks and hope they made the mistake. I don't think Sunseri even knows how to play that way. I do think we will get burnt a few times but I also think you will see the number of sacks tripple this year.

The secondary will be improved. There's 2 coaches to hone in on detail, and historically the secondary coach has been primarily a recuiter. Chavis had Brooks and Caldwell coaching the line for years but the secondary coach was a revolving door, with recruiting being the priority. Same thing the last few years.

Ansley can coach or he wouldn't have been under
Saban. And having an ex defensive coordinator as safties coach is a great idea.

They will be improved.
