From time to time you will read about a prospect who has "said" that early PT doesn't matter. I think that isn't necessarily the truth. Why would you want to sit and wait or red shirt?
Exactly! They may say that because they are going to a school they always wanted to go to and have a lot of depth at his position like AL but deep in their heart when they hear the noise on game day they want to be on that field.

I know alot of College Players (Not all at UT), But some are being realistic and they KNOW if they go to the SEC they aren't physically ready to play as a freshman. It's not that they don't want to get PT, everyone does, it's just that they are being real to themselves. They work hard in the weight room as a freshman, and get a redshirt, they have 4 years after getting a whole year to develop into a SEC Quality athlete.
There are always exception to everything but I believe what we are talking about is the top level players that want to get on the field early. Then there are some programs that are in the elite category that some top level players just want to be a part of and understand that it may take a year or so to get on the field. But most of the top level players IMO look at the depth chart to see if there is a chance to play early.
It plays a factor, but look at the Rivals 250. Many of those kids could start at Kentucky or Vandy. Check how many of them actually go there. If playing time was the main factor, you would see those schools loading up. Championship contender, TV Exposure, Tradition (though maybe not as much as in the past), history of sending players to the NFL. Those things are big components as well.

The nation's No. 13 outside linebacker has a new top five.
"Clemson, Louisville, UNC, Tennessee and Miami," Dawson listed in order. "The way everything goes at Clemson it gets better, better and better."
