No question about it. You are absolutely correct. The LB's currently on campus just aren't good enough for this league. I think a large part of next year's success will depend on how ready those freshman LB's are. I usually dont have lofty expectations, if any at all, for true freshman, but if these guys they are bringing in are legit SEC talents and mature enough they will play immediately IMO.

I absolutely agree 100%.

I could see him as a situational guy.

I read on VQ that Coach Sirmon told him he is a OLB for us & thats where he is staying. Dont know how accurate that is but it was said. I could see that happening, he is already at 225 & could easily be 230-235 before the season starts.

I think his official position will be OLB, but we all know that in a 3-4 gap scheme the OLBs will sometimes line up with their hand in the dirt.

I could see him as the guy that drops back into Jack when we go from 4-3 to 3-4 with Jackson sliding out and Couch as NT.

True freshman LB's playing scares me...

I really feel like Lathers is our only true SEC quality LB on campus. I know there are other guys that can contribute and hold their own but he really is the only real true SEC LB in terms of talent...and he isn't on the top end of that scale either.

I would love to see us land a few 6'2 240lb backers. While playing freshman is not ideal, a freshman who is a true LB at that size can contribute as much or more than a converted S or RB trying to fill a LB spot.

Go Vols!

Absolutely. That's what I've been saying his role will be. I think he was recruited specifically to fill that role.

Wes says de. That's what dooley said at the coaching caravan in Orlando.

Question related to this: I've always heard the name "Jack" for the 4-3 DE who slides back to become the 4th LB when you go to 3-4. But I've also heard the name "Joker" thrown around sometimes. Is a Joker the same as a Jack?

Different names for the same position. Depends on the coach.

This is very positive news. Hopefully this Dawson works out better than the last. Woulda been nice to have a Dawson & Dawson combo to talk about though, SMH.

Dawson really likes Clemson but the depth chart isnt in his favor plus his dad really likes Tennessee & coach Dooley. It will be a Clemson/UT battle, Clemson will struggle again this season.

Yes, I believe Clemson will struggle again this year. But your not kidding on thier LB depth. They have taken several stud LB's in the last 2 or 3 classes.

That never seems to stop them from getting crazy recruiting classes

IMO if Clemson struggles to win 7-8 games this year I could see Dabo out.

I agree. Look out for them if they hire a coach who can coach his players to their potential. They will still be loaded with some quality talent. They just lack a good coach. Dabo and the rest of his staff can recruit with the best of them though.

Clemson's classes always seem lopsided. They'll get 4 or 5 top 100 players but the rest of their class is very average or below. That's where the great recruiting illusion comes from.
