Another year, same story - great talent falling in love with Clemson. Never understood it and I don't think I ever will.

I don't know if you've ever been there but it is a pretty nice place and I could really see the family atmosphere selling well there. It is a nice community.

Not my cup of tea but I could see some of these kids that want a school that is the heart of the community picking Clemson over other schools like that. UGA, Auburn, ect.

Been there a couple of times & it is nice I'll give you that. But it's not head and shoulders above in any other big time university in the south.

The bottom line is, they play mediocre football & always have. I really can't figure out how that doesn't trump the beauty and small town atmosphere. I know this, if I'm running a business, I send my new sales trainees to spend a week with Dabo -- talk about selling snow to an Eskimo.

Clemson is a cool spot with a good fanbase but Dabo is recruiting way over his coaching ability

dawson says playing early is big factor ,well tennessee will be graduating a few and early pt is a big possibility at UT,but clemson is loaded at lb and they got the number 1 inside backer and number 1 outside backer in class last year so he may not get any playing time at clemson for a couple of years.and i just dont see how clemson is pulling in all this defensive talent being in the acc and not being a top 5 acc team

"I've been to Clemson, Tennessee, and Louisville," Nick Dawson said. "I’m still very open. Every school I have an offer from, and some I may be receiving an offer from are still in the mix. I haven’t crossed anybody off the list. My latest offer was from Miami, and I’m going to visit on June 11th."

"I got to speak to the recruiting coordinator, Terry Joseph, who seems like a great coach. He was up-front with me and seemed straight with what he told me about how I’d fit into the program. I never got the feeling he was lying to me about anything.

"Then I met Coach (Peter) Sirmon, who would be my position coach in college. Every thing I saw there made me think UT has a solid program."

Dawson said he will camp at Clemson, Louisville, N.C. State, Tennessee, & UGA.

"they really need me down there," dawson said. "they want me to get down there on the visit. The scholarship is waiting on me. They need linebackers and i know i could play early at tennessee."

playing early is a big part of dawson's recruitment and he says that he takes notice of the depth chart at each school.

"it's very important," dawson said. "that's what i want to do. It's going to take hard work and playing with a good positive attitude. They got the numbers so it's possible for me to go in and play right away."

another reason tennessee has moved up the ladder for dawson is defensive backs coach terry joseph. The well respected joseph has made a nice name for himself in recruiting circles in just his second year in the sec. Joseph was in charlotte on monday and dawson said their relationship continues to grow stronger.

"the last couple of weeks we've become tight," dawson said. "he was at my school earlier today and we've gotten really tight. He's been here and i went up there for their spring game. He just tells me to go wherever i feel my heart is right. He tells me they need linebackers and we talk about life too. He's a cool guy."

Terry Joseph has been Crucial. Was he on Saban's staff or did he start up with Dooley at La Tech?

Came w/ Dooley from La. Tech, coached at LSU in '06. Joseph is an underrated recruiter. Has alot of connections in Mississippi, Louisiana, & the JUCO ranks. I read from a reliable poster on VQ that Saban tried to get him a few months ago & he flat out told Saban no.

We need LB's BAD...hopefully we can land this Dawson.

I also agree about Terry J he has been really getting out there and making a name for himself. Looks like Dooley saw his potential and he is living up to it.

No doubt. The LB situation is so scary bad right now. This kid might be the #1 overall recruit on the 2012 board for me. He would be a tremendous pickup and would help fill the biggest, most glaring need on the roster.

Dawson's dad is the biggest thing we have going for us here IIRC.

Agreed.

I think we'll see a whole lot of AJ Johnson and Christian Harris this year. Both of those guys will be the 2 biggest LB's we have the day the step foot on campus. Maggitt will probably see plenty of time at LB as well.

IMO it will probably take us at least a couple of years to bring in the kind of talent Dooley wants at LB. Right now we have too many undersized, average talents at LB. They work hard but you gotta have better talent at LB to be an upper echelon defense in this league.

We will also see Maggitt play LB some. I'm wondering if he will play both LB and DE or just LB.

As far as Dawson goes, I think we have a very good shot with him. At least that's what his latest article makes it sound like.

No question about it. You are absolutely correct. The LB's currently on campus just aren't good enough for this league. I think a large part of next year's success will depend on how ready those freshman LB's are. I usually dont have lofty expectations, if any at all, for true freshman, but if these guys they are bringing in are legit SEC talents and mature enough they will play immediately IMO.
