How many people are we still looking to add for the 2011 class? Originally I thought we are looking for two big men. I have also heard we are looking so strong in 2012, we may only take 3 in 2011. In the newest rankings from Maxpreps we see how depressingly well UK has recruited for 2011.

Updated Class of 2011 Basketball Top 100 - MaxPreps News

They have
1. Michael Gilchrist
St. Patrick (Elizabeth, NJ) SF, PF 6-7/190 Kentucky
Wins and produces with every team he plays for, including gold medal with United States at FIBA U17 World Championship in Germany over the summer.

6. Anthony Davis
Perspectives-IIT Math & Science/Joslin (Chicago, IL) SF, PF 6-9/185 Kentucky
Biggest surprise of the summer didn't hold a single scholarship offer in April.

9. Marquis Teague
Pike (Indianapolis, IN) PG 6-1/170 Kentucky
Teague's summer circuit exploits outweigh his success at Pike, but he was an Associated Press high honorable mention All-State selection after tacking up 18.3 points and 5.1 assists as a junior.

while we have
37. Chris Jones
Oak Ridge Military Academy (Oak Ridge, NC) PG 5-9/165 Tennessee
Relocating to Oak Ridge after helping Memphis Melrose capture Tennessee's Class AAA state title as a junior.

and
69. Kevin Ware
Rockdale County (Conyers, GA) SG, SF 6-4/180 Tennessee
Still hasn't become a dominant high school player but was very solid in posting 14.9 points per game for 28-2 Rockdale County in 2009-10.

It is interesting to note that Pelphrey has managed to snag two top 100 players for 2011.

Has anyone heard any updates on our top post guys we are pursuing? I know it is a long shot but I hope we can get at least 1 of the following:
3. Adonis Thomas
Melrose (Memphis, TN) SF 6-6/210
Powerfully-built wing will look to lead Melrose to second Class AAA state title in a row after playing a big part in USA's gold-medal effort at July's FIBA U17 World Championship in Germany

21. Johnny O'Bryant
East Side (Cleveland, MS) PF, C 6-9/240
Intimidating paint presence averaged 15.0 points and 12.4 rebounds per game as a junior, earned gold medal with U17 World Championship team.

22. Trevor Lacey
Butler (Huntsville, AL) SG 6-4/190
Alabama's Class 5A Player of the Year does it all for Butler, averaging 22.6 points per game to go along with 7.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists as a junior.

26. Rodney Hood
Meridian (MS) SF 6-8/190
Tall wing player has developed a smooth-looking jumper and can put the ball on the floor and go by defenders.

27. Julian Royal
Milton (Alpharetta, GA) PF 6-8/210
Earned first team All-State AAAAA honors and North Fulton County Player of the Year after leading Milton to a state championship as a junior.

28. Michael Chandler
Lawrence North (Indianapolis, IN) C 6-10/220
Averaged 17.9 points and double-digit rebounds each time out for storied Indianapolis program in 2009-10.

Julian Royal's teammate at Milton is rated 23rd and is headed to Ohio State. I believe Julian has not played for the AAU celtics, but Pearl has done very well in the Atlanta area and it would be an easy drive for his parents to come see him play.

Anyone have any updates?

Don't get me wrong I would love to have Adonis Thomas but from what I understand we're only taking 4 commits in this years recruiting class we already have 2 and I believe we're taking a post player and a guard. I would like to see the rest of our class be Chandler because he would fill a big need for us at center, and I would like for us to get Thomas as well but I don't see it since he's more of a post player.

Their's are always better than our's. From the Chicken Littles of the world.

If Cal does not get caught buying players, his habit of making the guys who have to go to college for 1 year because of the NBA rule change into lottery picks means that he will continue to dominate.

If you do not see how historic the UK talent run 2009, 2010 and 2011 is then I cannot help you.

Michigan had the Fab 4, but UNC and Duke have not had similar 3 year runs with multiple top 10 players IIRC.

I cannot recall a team since the Wooden era stockpile so much talent year after year.

Is it better to end up with some VERY good guys who are top 40 or so but who will not leave after 1 year? We will see...and I sure hope so!

They're Kentucky. They're on the level of UNC, Duke, and Kansas. Let's face it, we're going to have to consistently make it to the Elite 8 or higher over a period of time before we really start getting the attention of upper-upper echelon high school players. Sure, we'll snag one occasionally (like Tobias), but we can't build a team of them yet.

The good thing is (at least in my opinion) the difference between a player with Top 20 talent and a player with Top 100 talent is usually not all that great. There are some exceptions, but I think a really great team can be built with three or four "pretty good" players.

You can scratch O'Bryant, Hood, and Royal. We were not on their latest list of schools.

Deandre Daniels is a 2011 recruit because he decided not to reclassify and will instead attend prep school.

Despite what the "likely" recruiting plan may be (taking a guard and a post), it would be foolish to think that the staff would turn down a commitment from Thomas in the name of sticking to "the plan." BTW, he is a SF, not a back-to-the-basket post player. He has worked hard and significantly improved on his jump shot.

Trevor Lacey is really good. Would take him in a heartbeat.

I think it is much better to sign players who will be in your program for a longer period of time. Eventually, you will not continue signing from the top 10 players in the nation every year. Even with these players, don't expect the freshmen to be dominant like last year for KY.

Gilchrist is a Wes guy. Nothing to do with Kentucky tradition or mystique. March 2009, Gilchrist was slated to come to Memphis, right after Brandon Knight left to turn pro.

Lacey wanted to be a Vol for awhile but Pearl backed off.

Yeah I know. I was speaking on my behalf when I said I would take him in a second. I think that Pearl and co. were waiting on Caldwell. He was priority no. 1 at SG. Now we are in on McLemore who is higher rated and Nick Faust.

Lacey is a player though. Hope we stay on top of him.
